“The sounds of hundreds of instruments playing at a time. It may be overwhelming but totally worth the experience. This year Heidi Miller and Brent Miller went to Wayne State College, in Nebraska, for the 2014 WSC Honor Band.

Heidi Miller playing on the flute and Brent Miller playing the trombone. Every year the festival occurs and  consists of two high school bands and one junior high band.

The day consists of full day rehearsals with short breaks in between. Each band rehearses separately, then at the end of the day they had a full blown late afternoon concert. They say it was very fun and exiting and for sure Brent wants to go again next year.

We thank Wayne State College for holding the event. Hope to see you there next year for another exiting day at Wayne State College.”

LDNE Students Attend Honor Choir and Band

By Taylor Fuston

LDNE Student

Five students traveled to Stanton to attend the honor choir and honor band. What was special about this honor choir/ honor band is that they had both the honor choir and honor band going on at the same time. Normal honor choirs and honor bands are not held at the same time. The honor bands director was Mr. Roger Thaden.

Reid Preston and Layne Miller were in the band and they did an excellent job. Reid plays the trombone and Layne plays the trumpet and both got first chair. The honors choirs director was Dr. Elise Hepworth. The other three students Matthew Hartley, Cassidy Mentink and Amanda Alford all sang in the choir and they did a wonderful job. The music they sang was a bit tougher than they were used to. “
