Jeffrey Allan Ahlers, 49, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at his home. A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosalie, NE. The burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE.

Jeff was born in Omaha, NE on May 12, 1967 the son of Duane and Norma (Kinning) Ahlers. He graduated from Bancroft-Rosalie High School in 1985.  Following graduation he attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Accounting. Jeff moved to California where he worked for the Department of Defense as an accountant.  Later spending two years at Johnston Atoll Island. He later returned home. For the past several years Jeff worked at Menards, Ace Hardware, and most recently at Lowes.

Jeff is survived by his mother, Norma (Boyd) Hightree of Pender, NE; sister, Jami (Richard) Mohl of Bancroft, NE; nephews, Stuart Mohl of Thorton, CO and Ryley Mohl of Bancroft, NE; step brother, Alan Hightree of Sioux Falls, SD; his father’s companion, Carmen Russman and her family; step nephews and nieces; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Duane, his grandparents, step sister Lisa Gritten, uncle Don Kinning and a cousin Shelly Kinning.

Duane F. Ahlers, 77, of Rosalie NE


Duane F. Ahlers, 77, of Rosalie, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE. Funeral services will be Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosalie, NE with Pastor Robert Johnson officiating. The visitation will be Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft, NE from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.

Duane was born March 9, 1939 to Alfred and Mable (Soll) Ahlers on a farm north of Walthill. He was baptized April 16, 1939 and confirmed June 6, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosalie. In May of 1957, Duane graduated from Rosalie High School. After high school, Duane enrolled in the Marine Corps and was stationed in Parris Island, SC. After returning from the service, Duane married Norma Kinning on June 7, 1964. The couple had two children, Jeffrey and Jami.

Duane farmed from 1961 until 1994, and worked at Blue Ox from 1994 until 2007. He was a member of the VFW, mayor and Rosalie Town Board member, Immanuel Lutheran Church Board, Rural Fire Board, Old Settlers Committee, Rosalie Fire Department, Rosalie Rescue Squad, and was a former Mason. Duane loved playing cards, learning everything he could about NASA, and watching Bizarre Foods, saying he could see the world without leaving his couch.

Duane is survived by his son, Jeffrey Ahlers of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Jami (Richard) Mohl of Bancroft, NE and grandsons, Stuart Mohl of Thornton, CO and Ryley Mohl of Bancroft, NE; companion, Carmen Russman of Rosalie, NE; sister, Carol (Mylon) Beutler of Bancroft, NE; brother, Larry (Diane) Ahlers of Rosalie, NE, Dennis (Betsy) Ahlers of Burnsville, MN, Gary (Naomi) Ahlers of Lincoln, NE; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by Carmen’s family; Scott (Rhonda) Russman of Farnam, NE, Terri (Todd) Alberts of St. Paul, NE, Mark Russman of Wisner, NE, Mike (Melinda) Russman of Farnam, NE, Tyler (Teresa Block) Russman of Davison, MI, 15 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and Carmen’s daughter-in-law, Shelly Russman.

Ione Madelyn Nelson, 98, of Rosalie NE


IONE MADELYN NELSON was born to Walter and Hannah (Peterson) Wachter on May 15, 1916 in rural Herman, Nebraska. She passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014, at Ambassador Nursing Home in Nebraska City.

Before moving to Rosalie in 1930, Ione attended schools in Washington County. She graduated from Rosalie High School in 1934. In March of 1938, she married Gunnar Nelson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosalie. They moved to a farm west of town where they lived until retirement in 1975, at which time they moved to Rosalie.

Ione was a professional homemaker. She was truly a “farmer’s wife”. She spent hours on end in their yard planting flowers and maintaining a vegetable garden. During the winter months, she occupied herself by quilting. Through the years, she was active in different capacities at her church. She was also a charter member of the Rosalie Friendship Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, C. Gunnar Nelson; daughter Carole Dawn; parents, Walter and Hannah (Peterson) Wachter; brother and sister-in-law, Rollin and Jeanne Wachter.

Survivors include brother, Richard (Susan) Wachter; son-in-law, Wesley Nelson; children, Linda (Don) Young, Colleen (LeRoy) Kenan, Randy (Kathy) Nelson, Roger (Diane) Nelson; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Friday, January 2, 2015, 2:00 pm, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosalie, NE

MEMORIAL VISITATION: Friday, one hour prior to service at the church
