Irene Dixon, 81, formerly of Bancroft NE


Irene Naomi Klase Dixon, age 81, formerly of Bancroft, NE passed away November 4, 2015 in Sioux City, Iowa.   Funeral services will be held Monday, November 9, 2015, 11 a.m. at the Oakland Evangelical Free Church, Oakland, Nebraska with grandson Pastor Josh Luse, officiating. Her grandsons Troy Daum, Aaron Luse, Josh Luse, Gabe Luse, Ezra Luse, Andrew Luse, Blaine Andrews, Beau Andrews, Levi Dixon, Josiah Dixon, and Hunter Dixon will act as pallbearers. Irene was born February 9, 1934 in Dixon, Wyoming, near the family homestead in Slater, Colorado, to parents Robert and Bessie Lillian (Pond) Klase. She was one of four children. In the late 1930’s, the family moved to a farm near Lyons, NE. Irene graduated from Lyons High School in 1952.

She was united in marriage to Roy M. Dixon on August 31, 1952 at the family farm near Lyons. To this union five children were born: Brenda Kay, Teresa June, Charlotte Ann, Roberta Mae and Rhett Matthew. The couple raised their family on farms near Lyons. Irene was a faithful wife and mother. She and Roy enjoyed growing and tending to their large garden. She worked hard canning and freezing produce from the garden and orchard. Together with Roy, they also raised and butchered their own meat including beef, lamb, pigs, chickens, rabbits, and ducks. Irene occasionally worked with Bonnie Bacon hanging wallpaper in area homes and businesses. Irene worked for Tri-State Chiropractic in South Sioux City for ten years.

Irene was a servant. She was active in the Blackbird Sunday School Union and Camp Assurance in Belden, Nebraska. She hosted Bible school teachers, helped with carry in meals, and played the piano. She also helped with the upkeep of the property by painting, wallpapering, remodeling, mowing and whatever else needed done. Later, she and Roy were active in the Oakland Evangelical Church. Irene was a member of the Star Sister Robert Klase VFW Post 7998 in Lyons.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Brenda and husband Roger Daum of Cozad, NE; Teresa and husband Dr. Pat Luse of Sioux City, IA; Charlotte and husband Bruce Andrews of Hampton, NE; Roberta and husband Keith Weitzenkamp of Lyons, NE; and Rhett and wife Sheila Dixon of Clarks, NE. Also surviving are her grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, in-laws, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; brothers Robert and Earl, and sister Isabelle, great grandson Myles Daniel Jennnett.
