Lonnie Lee Giles, 82, of Tekamah NE


Lonnie Lee Giles was born April 29, 1933 to Darious and Pearl (Price) Giles in Tekamah, Nebraska. He passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa, at the age of 82 years.

Lonnie attended both Tekamah Elementary School and Tekamah High School, graduating in 1952. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955.

He lived in Colorado, where he worked in the trucking industry, until he moved back to Nebraska in 1977. Lonnie married Shirley (Modlin) on December 16, 1978. He began working for the Burt County Road Department in 1981, and retired from there in 1995.

He was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Decatur, Nebraska in June 1982. He was a member of American Legion LaFrenz Post #15 in Tekamah.

Lonnie enjoyed camping with family, especially the grandchildren. He could always find things to do around their home and yard. He never thought keeping up with mowing at the church property was a weekly chore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Scott; sister, Daphne Archer; brother, Bob.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Tamara (Gregory) Dietrich of Federal Heights, CO; granddaughter, Amy Lynn (Anthony) DeGeorge of Thornton, CO; step-daughter, Kimberly Kaye (Tom) Kegler of Herman, NE; step-son, Douglas Lloyd (Michele) Modlin of Hebron, NE; step-grandchildren, Alea (Paul) Landrum, AJ (Tara) Modlin and Brandon (Sarah) Modlin, Shane (Katie) Kegler; step-great grandchildren, Sophia Ivadell Kegler and Alivia Malay Kegler, Elijah Douglas Modlin, Reid Patrick Modlin; sisters, Bonnie (Sidney) Crippen of Tekamah, Wanda Blankenbeckler and Linda Calwell both of Blair, NE, Carma (Larry) Robinson of Tekamah; brother, Kenneth (Connie) Giles of Bloomington, IN.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday, September 19, 2015, 10:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ, Decatur Restoration Branch in Decatur, Nebraska.

NO VISITATION

BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery in Tekamah, Nebraska.
