Donald E. ‘Don’ Berg, age 81, of Scribner, Nebraska passed away Wednesday April 29, 2015, at Nye Legacy in Fremont, Nebraska.  Memorial service will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Scribner.  The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate.  Visitation with the family receiving friends will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ludvigsen’s Scribner Funeral Chapel in Scribner.  In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Craig Community Foundation and the Scribner Rescue Squad. Don was born March 19, 1934 in Craig, NE. to Burt and Anna (Anderson) Berg. He graduated from Craig High School in 1951. He married Joan Ellerman on July 22, 1956 in Scribner. Don served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1959 stationed at Virginia Fort Belvoir. After his service he worked for Viv Carlson trucking. In 1963 Don and Joan moved to Scribner. Don bought Don Kruger Transfer and started Berg Transfer, hauling cattle and grain. In 1981 he sold the business and worked for JJ Parks (later called Omni) driving construction trucks.  He then went to work for Scribner Grain until his retirement.

Don was a past member of the Craig Fire Department and Methodist Church. He was the Mayor of Scribner from 1970-1982.

Mary E. Andersen, 80, of Fremont, Formerly of Uehling NE


Mary E. Andersen, age 80, of Fremont, formerly of Uehling, Nebraska passed away early Thursday morning, April 9th, in Dunklau Gardens, Fremont.  Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Apr. 13th, at the Elim Lutheran Church, Swaburg, south of Uehling, with the Rev. Judith Johnson officiating. Mary was born May 16, 1934 in Winside, NE to William and Anna (Suhr) Lambrecht. She moved with her family to Omaha in 1944, where she graduated from Omaha South High School in 1951, then worked for Wright & Whilhelmy until 1954.

She married Richard L. Andersen in Omaha on May 13, 1953. Richard was serving in the US Army at the time. Then following his return from his overseas service duty in 1954, they settled on a farm near Uehling, NE and raised their children. Mary returned to work part time at the hospital in Fremont in 1974, then later in that same year, she went to work at the Uehling State Bank where she remained until 1985. She also worked temporarily in the ASC Office in Fremont, and TGS, FTI, and Furst Group Co. until her retirement in 1999. Her husband of nearly 52 years preceded her in death on March 29, 2005. Mary remained on the farm until moving to Fremont 2 years ago. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, Swaburg, and a past member of LCW and Altar Guild. And she was a member of the Happy Hour Club.

In addition to her husband Richard, she was preceded by her sister Gloria in 2005 and brother Ray in 2009.

Surviving are: sons, Rick Andersen of rural Uehling and special friend Shari Exceen, Bruce (Teresa) Andersen of Fremont, daughters, Laurie (Dan) Wobken of Hooper, Linda (Dan) Jacques of Abilene, TX, Carol (Alan) Shipull of Algona, IA. Mary has 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Clara (Doug) Houston of Omaha, brother Harold (JoAnn) Lambrecht of Council Bluffs, IA, sister-in-law LaVonne Lambrecht of Minneapolis, MN, brother & sister-in-law Don & Patsy Andersen of Fremont, and many beloved nieces, & nephews.

Fern L. Krohn, 89, of Hooper NE


Fern L. Krohn age 89, of Hooper passed away  Friday March 20, 2015 at the Hooper Care Center.

The memorial service will be 10:30 Tuesday March 24th at Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Winslow. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church or the Hooper Care Center. There will be no viewing, however the family will be present at Ludvigsen’s Hooper Funeral Chapel on Monday from 6pm to 8pm to receive friends. Fern Louise Lang Krohn daughter of Ernest and Emma ‘Pawling’ Krohn was born on a farm in the Hooper area on July 25, 1925. At the age of 1 ½ years the family moved to a farm south of Herman, where she grew up, and graduated from Herman High School in 1943. After graduation she helped her father with farming as her brother was serving during WWII. In November of 1944 Fern went to Kearney with her sister and worked in a variety store until July 1945 when they both cam back to Herman and got jobs in Omaha. She worked for 13 months at Mutual of Omaha. On September 29, 1946 she married Orland Krohn of Herman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair. They resided on a farm west of Herman until retiring in 1993 and moving into Hooper.  Fern was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hooper. She was involved in the Ladies Aid group at both churches. She moved to Fremont and was a resident of Nye Courte and member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Marian J. (Johnson) Schultz, 90, of Fremont/Hooper/Uehling


Marian J. (Johnson) Schultz, age 90, of the Fremont/Hooper/Uehling area passed away early Saturday, March 7th, at the Hooper Care Center.  The funeral service will be 2 PM Wednesday,, March 11th,  at Elim Lutheran Church of Swaburg with Rev. Judith Johnson. Marian was born July 28, 1924 at Uehling to Elmer and Marie (Johnson) Lantefield. She grew up on the farm near Uehling and graduated from Uehling High School.

On June 15, 1941, Marian was married to Lawrence Johnson in the Elim Lutheran Church of Swaburg. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska until her husband entered the military service. Upon his return home, they moved to a farm in the Craig/Uehling area. In 1980, the couple moved to Tekamah.

Her husband Lawrence, died in 1985 and Marian moved into Fremont in 1986. On December 21, 1988, she was married to Garlan Schultz and they made their home in Fremont.

In her working years, Marian had been a bookkeeper for the Craig Telephone Company for 11 years. In Fremont, she had been a secretary for Mike Gulliatt for 2 years.

Marian was a lifelong member of Elim Lutheran Church of Swaburg where she had been baptized and confirmed. There she taught Sunday School and Bible School, and was a Luther League Sponsor. She was a former member of the Women’s Society of Uehling, a member of the Uehling Auxiliary, and a member of the Wo-He-Lo Club. She had also been a Red Cross volunteer.

Marcella “Sally” Williamsen, 72, of Uehling NE

passed away on January 26, 2015
at Nye Legacy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fremont

Marcella “Sally” Williamsen was born to Otto F. and Ida A. (Poppe) Pribnow on January 11th, 1943, in Scribner, NE. Sally grew up on a farm outside of Scribner, NE, graduating from Scribner High School in 1960.
On September 18th, 1960, Sally married Roger Williamsen in Scribner (they were later divorced). Sally and Roger made their home in lots of places, most of the years in a farm south of Craig, NE (Alder Grove) and Craig itself, where they operated an auto repair shop and raised their four children. Sally was employed many years at the Pendleton Mills as a steam press operator. She was also employed as a waitress, bookkeeper, housecleaner, and store clerk over the years. Sally enjoyed sewing, traveling, hunting, and flying. She was an enthusiastic angler, having fished in Alaska, Colorado, Montana, Arkansas, and many other locations. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Ida Pribnow, and sister, Shirley Pribnow.

Sally is survived by her son, Joel (Linda) Williamsen, of Huntsville, AL; daughter Judy (Layne) Gebers, of Clarksville, TN; son Jon Williamsen, of Lyons, NE; and daughter Jenna (Shanon) Morris, of Cedar Bluffs, NE; brother, Otto (Emily) Pribnow, Jr., of Scribner, NE; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Honorary bearers will be her eight grandchildren: Nikkole Gebers, Dustin Gebers, Christopher Williamsen, Jenessa Gebers, David Williamsen, Taylor Williamsen, Daphney Williamsen, and Leo Morris.

There will be no graveside service, instead, a memorial marker will be placed at a later date at Alder Grove Methodist Church where her ashes will be interred.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, 10:00 AM at United Lutheran Church in Scribner with Rev. Dr. Nicki McIntyre officiating.

Memorial visitation with the family members will be held on Friday, January 30 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, East 23rd Street, Fremont, Nebraska from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Ella A. Carlson, age 95, of Hooper passed away Sunday January 4, 2015 at her home.   The family is honoring Ella’s request that there will be no funeral service. The burial will be in the Hooper Cemetery with a private family service at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ella Mohl was born Nov. 21, 1919 in the rural Bancroft, NE. area, where she grew up and worked on the family farm. She married John Carlson on January 11, 1945. They farmed near Lyons, NE. until 1960, when they moved to the Hooper area. She worked at the former Campbell Soup Company in Fremont for many years and at Logan View Jr.-Sr. High School until her retirement.  She is survived by her children; Marleen Carlson of Hooper; Nancy (Stan) Jahn of Fremont; Steve Carlson of Hooper; Dave (Jacque) Carlson of Red Oak, Iowa; Duane (Deb) Carlson of Omaha and daughter-in-law Barb Carlson of Hooper. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sister Florence Erickson of Oakland, brother Robert (Gladys) Mohl of West Point, 2 sisters-in-law Maxine Ibsen of Fremont and Eunice Mohl of Norfolk, many nieces and nephews.  Ella was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, son Darrell Carlson, 3 brothers and a sister.  Ludvigsen’s Hooper Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
