Vernon L. Frandsen, 86, of Fremont Formerly of the Uehling Area


Vernon L. ‘Big Dane’ Frandsen, age 86 of Fremont, formerly of the Uehling area passed away Wednesday February 3 at Fremont Health Medical Center.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Uehling Auditorium. The Rev. Mark Eldal will officiate. Burial will follow in the Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Swaburg with Military Honors. Visitation will be Sunday with the family receiving friends from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue for one hour before the service in Uehling. Vernon was born in Kennard, Nebraska on September 7, 1929 to Lars and Johanna ‘Cook’ Frandsen. He grew up in several small communities in the Uehling area. He graduated from Uehling High School in 1948. After high school he drove a truck for several different companies. In 1951 Vernon joined the Army and served until 1953. He married Jane A. Von Essen in 1953 and after their marriage they lived on a farm near Swaburg until 1963. They moved to a farm near Hooper and lived there for 2 years before moving to the Von Essen home place. Vernon retired in 1991 and the couple moved to Fremont. After retirement, Vernon continued to assist Galen Johnson on his farm.

 

Vernon was a member of Uehling American Legion Post 196, Uehling Lions Club and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Uehling. Vernon and Jane were members of the same card club for over 60 years. While living in Fremont they would attend First Lutheran Church.

Grace Sager, 99, of Hooper NE


Grace Sager, age 99, of Hooper, Nebraska passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015, at the Hooper Care Center in Hooper.  Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30th, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper with Rev. Joel Schroeder officiating.  Committal will follow in the Hooper Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont on Tuesday, December 29th, from 3 until 7 p.m.   Memorials are suggested to the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper, the Tabitha Foundation in Lincoln or to the Midland University.  Online condolences may be left for the family at http://www.ludvgsenmortuary.com.  Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.

Grace (Blomendahl) Sager was born February 27, 1916, to Henry & Sophie (Hilgen) Blomendahl at their farm home near Hooper.  She was baptized, confirmed and married all at the former Zion Lutheran Church of Hooper.  On October 24, 1946, she married Floyd Sager.  They made their home in Fremont.  She was employed at the county level of the Federal Farm Program, then at Nebraska Savings & Loan Ass.  Her husband was in banking in Fremont, and later in Grand Island.  He was also business manager of Midland College in Fremont.  In 1970, they moved to Grand Island, Nebraska.

Grace enjoyed volunteer work at the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, along with gardening, especially flowers.  They enjoyed traveling all 50 states and many foreign countries.  After Floyd’s retirement, they moved to Fremont.  Grace was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Hooper.

Floyd preceded her in death on April 11, 2011.  She was preceded by her parents, sister-Alma & husband Joe Evans, four brothers: George & wife Lois Blomendahl; Carl Blomendahl; Herb & wife Myra Blomendahl and Ed & wife Esther Blomendahl; brother-in-law, Dale Sager; sister-in-law, Dorlene Luther; two nieces: Marge Wills & Phyllis Blomendahl and two nephews: Lewis Blomendahl & Glenn Blomendahl.

Grace is survived by her sister-in-law, Charlene Sager and by her brother-in-law Wayne Luther and many nieces & nephews.

Jane A. Frandsen, 84, of Fremont NE Formerly of the Uehling NE Area


Jane A. Frandsen age 84, of Fremont, formerly of the Uehling area
passed away Sunday November 22, 2015 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.

The funeral will be 10:30am Wednesday at the Uehling Auditorium in Uehling. The Rev. Mark Eldal will officiate. Burial will follow in the Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Swaburg. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Uehling Park or Uehling Auditorium.

Jane was born May 7, 1931 in Oakland, Nebraska to Arthur and Pearl ‘Mallette’ Von Essen. She was raised on the family farm southwest of Oakland. She graduated from Uehling High School in 1948 then attended the Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha. After her schooling she worked for Mutual of Omaha then Hormel Foods in Fremont. She married Vernon Frandsen in 1953. The couple lived on a farm near Swaburg until 1963, then moved to a farm near Hooper and lived there for 2 years before returning to her family’s home place. Jane worked as a secretary for Logan View Schools from 1970 until 1991. The couple retired and moved into Fremont in 1991.

Jane was a member of the Uehling American Legion Auxiliary, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Uehling and belonged to an extension club. Jane and Vernon played in a card club with the same people for over 60 years. While in Fremont they also attended First Lutheran Church.

Lloyd A. Wilkinson, 83 of Fremont NE


Lloyd A. Wilkinson, age 83, of Fremont, Nebraska passed away Monday November 16, 2015 at Nye Point Health and Rehab in Fremont.  Funeral services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church.  The Rev. Jon Ashley will officiate.  Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors.  Visitation will be Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Lloyd was born October 12, 1932 in Fremont to Clyde and Mabel ‘Menking’ Wilkinson. He was raised in Arlington, moved to Fremont when he was 10 years old and graduated from Fremont High School in 1950. He served in the National Guard from 1949 until 1962. After high school he went to work for Carlstrom Brothers Construction in Fremont. He worked for them for 32 years then worked for several other contractors and himself before retiring. Lloyd was a great athlete. He loved hockey and had his own children on skates at a very young age. He also loved Cowboy Movies especially John Wayne and country singers Gene Autry and Eddy Arnold.

Lloyd had been a member of the Izaak Walton League and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Arie #200. He had been involved with the Mariners Club at The Presbyterian Church in Fremont.

Lloyd married Jerry Cozad on October 18, 1953 in Red Oak, IA. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2014.
