Glenn Holm Meyer, 87, of Bancroft NE


Glenn Holm Meyer, 87, of Bancroft, passed away Monday, September 14, 2015 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender; with Ben Lawrence officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, September 17, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Burial with military honors will be in the Bancroft City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for future designation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home.

Glenn was born July 24, 1928 in Bancroft, NE to William E. and Lillie (Holm) Meyer. He attended and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1946. After entering the Air Force and serving in the Korean War for four years, he returned home and went to school on the GI Bill in Lyons, Nebraska. Glenn was baptized in 1954, and married Shirley Oehlerking on April 18, 1954 in Leeds, Iowa. The couple returned to the Bancroft area where Glenn was a lifelong farmer and a rural mail carrier for 7 years.

Glenn was a Church Leader and Preacher for the Church of Christ, 4-H leader for 25 years, and an active member and former board member of the Senior Center. He also served on the Bancroft and Cuming County School Boards and the Co-op Board. He enjoyed playing pool and singing while playing his accordion at festivals.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Shirley Meyer of Bancroft, NE; son, Randy Meyer of South Sioux City, NE; daughters, Carol (Bob) Filler of Olive Branch, MS, Kathy (Brad) Morgan of Walthill, NE; brothers, Wayne Meyer of Pender, NE, William “Woody” (Reva) Meyer and Jim (Lois) Meyer both of Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Glenn is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Jaworski; sisters-in-law, Bernice Meyer and Joy Meyer.

Rachel Kubik, 88, of Emerson NE


Rachel Mayme Kubik, 88, of Emerson, NE passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Heritage of Emerson Nursing Home in Emerson, NE. Funeral services for Rachel will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson with Pastors Gretchen Ritola and Sara Ruch officiating. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Emerson. Rachel was born on October 1, 1926 to James Richard and Annie (Boeshart) Kingston in their home northeast of Dixon, NE. She was baptized at the Rosehill Methodist Church in Dixon. Rachel attended Happy Corner, Clark and Myrtle Creek Country Schools and graduated from Allen High School in 1943. After school she attended normal teaching school and taught at Turtle Hill Country School for a year and at Clark Center Country School for two years. On January 15, 1947, she married Theodore “Ted” Kubik at her parents’ home in Allen.

The couple farmed in the Allen and Emerson areas until 1962, when they moved to the Kubik family farm south of Walthill, NE. In January of 1973, they moved back to Emerson, where they farmed and she worked for the Farmers Co-Op and Emerson Housing Authority until her retirement. Ted passed away on November 28, 1990.

Rachel was an active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, was a member of St. Luke’s Miriam Bible Study Group and St. Luke’s Women’s group. She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary serving for 57 years.

Rachel is survived by her sons: James (Kris) Kubik of Pawnee City, NE and Scott (Wendy) Kubik of Emerson, NE. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jeff Kubik, Laura Fuehrer, Ashley (Brett) Balliet and Joseph Kubik and her great grandchildren: Kyla Kubik, Breana Fuehrer, Valencia Fuehrer, Corbin Balliet and Abel Balliet and her sister Faith (Bernard) Keil of Allen, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ted.

Shirley L. Watson, 78, of Sioux City IA Formerly of Walthill NE


Shirley L. Watson, 78, of Sioux City, IA, formerly of Walthill, NE, died on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City, IA. Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church in Walthill, NE; Pastor Nola Briggs will be officiating. Shirley was born on December 19, 1936 in Hartington, NE, the daughter of Clarence and Wilhelmina (Weber) Beecher. She graduated from Wausa High School in Wausa, NE and attended teacher’s school in Sioux City, Ia. She taught in the Thurston, NE area for a brief time. On August 16, 1963, she was united in marriage to Alonzo Robert Watson. She worked at Campbell Manufacturing for a short time before staying at home to take care of their children. Alonzo died in 2000, she moved to Sioux City, IA in 2001 to be closer to her family. Shirley enjoyed reading, sewing, and camping, most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children: Robert Stromberg of Tacoma, WA, Richard Stromberg of Houston, TX, Randall (Norene) Stromberg of Lyons, NE, Rodney Watson of Rosalie, NE, Patti Stromberg of Norfolk, NE and Raelyn Watson of Sioux City, IA, a special “Son” LeRoy McRoberts; thirteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by a sister Patricia (Robert) Turner of Omaha, NE.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Dre Lary, and a brother Lloyd Beecher.

Dale was born April 7, 1924 in Neligh, NE the son of Albert and Bertha (Elsasser) Doht. He graduated from Rosalie High School in 1942. Dale was united in marriage to Delores Sunderman in Pender, NE on June 1, 1947. To this union four children were born: Alan, Barbara, Gail and Connie. Dale was a member of the United States Army, serving in World War II from 1943 until 1945. Dale was appointed as a State Deputy for Nebraska, serving in Thurston County and later was appointed as Thurston County Sherriff to fill out the term of the acting Sherriff. Later Dale farmed in the Pender area until his retirement.

Dale was a member of the Thurston Legion. He enjoyed being outside, especially tending to his yard, fishing, farming, and watching his bird feeders. Dale loved to play cards, build doll houses in the winter, and going to dances. Most of all, he loved his family, especially the grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Doht of Pender, NE; son, Alan (Shawn) Doht of Pender, NE; daughters, Barbara (William) Price of Brookings, SD, Connie (John) Miller of Pender, NE, son-in-law, Barry Nelson of Lincoln, NE; 8 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

Dale is preceded in death by his daughter, Gail Nelson, parents, and brothers, Arthur and Delwin.

Funeral services for Mabel will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; Pastor Miles Ruch will be officiating. Mabel was born on September 15, 1914 in Thor, Iowa, to Ole and Gunda (Dahlen) Opheim. She graduated from Decorah High School in Decorah, Iowa. Mabel was baptized, confirmed, and on May 30, 1937, she was united in marriage to M. Craig Carter at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Lynda, Erle and Chuck. The couple owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station in Thor, Iowa until 1950, then they moved to Pender, Nebraska. In 1958, they moved to Beemer, Nebraska where they resided until returning to Pender in 1985 and managed the Charonel Motel in Pender for several years. They later returned to Beemer, where Craig died on July 12, 2003. Mabel later returned to Pender, living in Prairie Breeze Assisted Living. She was a member of the Beemer Senior Center and enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden.

Mabel is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Roger) Suhr of Pender, NE; sons, Erle (Candie) Carter of Omaha, NE, and Chuck (Marti) Carter of Norfolk, NE; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Craig, two brothers and six sisters.
