John J. Brasch, 57, of Rosalie NE


John J. Brasch, 57, of Rosalie, Nebraska died on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE; Pastor Philip Hale will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft. Burial will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.

John was born on December 15, 1957 in West Point, NE, the son of Vernon and Shirley (Lange) Brasch. He attended Rosalie High School graduating in 1975. Following graduation he worked at Vollers and Sons in Pender, NE as a mechanic. Later he worked at Precision Engine and Machine as a machinist. Following this he opened his own business “Transmission Specialist”, where he built racing engines, transmissions and did other machine work. He moved to Wahoo, where he worked on a feedlot near Mead, NE for a couple years upon getting married and helped raise a stepson for several years. He later divorced, worked for Cornhusker Trailer Mfg. before returning to the family farm as his and his father’s health declined. Vernon passed away in 2005 from Cancer. His mother Shirley later died in 2012 after suffering from Parkinson’s disease. John spent time reading, building stock car engines in his early years and later helping his brother Lee with farming as his health allowed. John was a caring man, who enjoyed time with his stepson Matthew and friend Debby. He is survived by his brother Lee (Lydia) Brasch of Bancroft, NE, stepson Matthew, aunts, uncle and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents and an Uncle Duane Brasch.

Perry Michael “Mike” Martin, 75, of Lincoln, NE, formerly of Emerson, NE and Granville, IA, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015 at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln. Funeral services will be Friday, June 19, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, NE; Father Gerald Leise is officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. A visitation will also be from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville, IA, with burial at 4:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Granville, IA. Mike was born on May 7, 1940 to Floyd and Clare (McTaggert) Martin on a farm near Emerson, NE. In 1959, he graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School, and from a trade school in Omaha in 1961. Mike enlisted into the United States Army serving during the Korean War from 1962 thru 1964. On November 12, 1966, he was united in marriage to Patricia McCarthy in Alton, Iowa. They made their home in Emerson, NE where he worked on the farm until 1994, when they moved to Granville. On April 26, 2009, Patricia died. Soon after her death, Mike moved to Lincoln to be closer to his family. He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus and former member of the Sacred Heart Parish Council, the Emerson Rural Fire Department and in the mid 1980’s was a Farm Crisis Representative.

Mike is survived by his four sons, a daughter, their spouses, and sixteen grandchildren; James and Leona Martin and their children, Matt and Brittany Michelson, Cassandra, Danielle, and Breanna Martin, of LeMars, IA, Melissa and Mike Oehm and their children, Tyler, Josh and Daniel Oehm of Lincoln, NE, Dean and Teri Martin and their children, Taylor and Ethan Martin of Lincoln, NE, Jon and Dora Martin and their children, Waylon and his wife Amanda, Barak Holt and Bridgette Martin of El Paso, TX, Eric and Nikke Martin and their children, Jacob Helsel, Owen and Brady Martin of Waverly, NE, two great-grandchildren, Raenell and Leilani Holt of El Paso, TX; a brother Jack Martin of Emerson, NE brother-in-laws and their wives, Duane and Mary Ann McCarthy of Lafayette, IN, Jim and Reina McCarthy of Tyrone, NM, Terry and Nit McCarthy of Fort Worth, TX, Michael and Rizza McCarthy of Hayward, CA, and Brad McCarthy of Davenport, IA, three sister-in-laws, Carol Holles of Sheldon, IA, Kay and Paul Reimer of Danbury, IA, and Mary and Jerel Schomer of Lee’s Summit, MO.

Henry “Hank” George Puls, Jr., 87, of Pender, NE, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services will be Friday, June 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE; with Pastor Miles Ruch officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery in Pender. Henry was born September 29, 1927 to Henry and Margaret (DeGroat-Manning) Puls in rural Pender. He was baptized July 7, 1928 at St. Peter’s German Lutheran Church. He graduated from Pender in 1944. After graduating, Henry joined the Navy October 21, 1944 and was honorably discharged July 9, 1946. On June 19, 1949, Henry married Jeanette Schmeckpeper in Pender, NE. The couple had three children. Henry was the owner of Thurston Pool Hall and worked at Merry Grain and Lumber in Thurston, NE. He also was a farmer and a rural mail carrier. Henry loved fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Henry is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Gary) Brehmer of Ponte Vedra, FL, Theresa (Andy) Anderson of Emerson, NE; daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Puls of Geneva, NY; grandchildren, Ryan Brehmer, Greta (Doug) Kraemer, Angie (Barry) Mathewson, Kimberly (Greg) Hasenkamp, Andrea Puls, Jill (Joe) Bisenius, Megan Puls, Gretchen Puls, and Alex Bottolfsen; and great grandchildren, Ashley, Garrett, and Logan Kraemer, Gabriella and Finnegan Hasenkamp, Daphne and Gwynn Mathewson, and Kensie Bisenius; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Joyce Puls of Des Moines, IA, Arlene Manning of West Point, NE, Stella Puls of Pender, NE, Bev Fritz of Sioux City, IA, Lorna (Terry) Wingett of Thurston, NE, Linda (Warren) Burmester of Pender, NE, Carolyn Schmeckpeper of Pender, NE, Gail (Bill) Harrison of Wakefield, NE, Gordon (Margaret) Schmeckpeper of Sioux City, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Morris was born September 1, 1924 in Pender, NE to John and Bernice (Smith) Kelly. Morris was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Thurston and attended Thurston School. On January 11, 1948 Morris married Cleone Carlsten at the Methodist Church in Lyons, NE. The couple had two children.

Morris was a member of the United Church of Pender, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Thurston Fire and Rescue, and Thurston Town Board. He was also a member of the Thurston School Board and the Nebraska Winnebago Club. Morris loved to dance and camp. Working was his favorite hobby.

He is survived by his wife, Cleone Kelly of Pender, NE; son, Ron (Wanda) Kelly of Thurston, NE; daughter, Maureen (Terry) Thompson of Clive, IA, brothers, William (Gladys) Kelly of Castle Rock, CO, Myron (Alice) Kelly of Thurston, NE; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Morris is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Gerald Kelly.

Dennis Daniel Gatzemeyer, 66, of Bancroft, Nebraska passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Father Paul Ortmeier celebrating Mass. Dennis was born on September 27, 1948, in Pender Nebraska to Lawrence and Hazel (Castor) Gatzemeyer. He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bancroft. He attended and graduated from Bancroft High School and soon after enlisted in the US Army serving for 2 years. After returning from war, he married Nancy Ann Kohl on July 10, 1971 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer, NE. To this union they had 5 children, Matthew, Jason, Jeremy, Jessica, and Joshua.

In 1990, he attended Cheyenne Areo Tech where he received his diploma in Aviation Mechanics. Dennis loved working on tractors, tractor pulling and playing cards with family.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Nancy Gatzemeyer of Bancroft, NE; sons, Matthew Gatzemeyer, Joshua Gatzemeyer, and Jason (Jenny) Gatzemeyer all of Bancroft, NE, Jeremy Gatzemeyer of West Point, NE; daughter, Jessica (Justin) Brichacek of Bancroft, NE; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Jim Gatzemeyer of Bellevue, NE, and Gary Gatzemeyer of Bancroft, NE; sisters, Myra (Kent) Bunderson and Deloise (Delwyn) Pearson both of Oakland, NE; and sisters-in-law Erma Gatzemeyer of Bancroft, NE, and Janice Gatzemeyer of Omaha, NE.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Lawrence and Hazel, his brothers Loren “Shorty” Gatzemeyer, and Pat Gatzemeyer.
