Marvin Henry Meier, 89, of Wayne, Nebraska passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Careage Campus of Care in Wayne, NE. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, NE; with Pastor Jeanne Madsen officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE; visitation will resume Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the family present. Burial with military honors will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne, NE. Memorials may be given to the family for future designation. Marvin was born March 4, 1926 in Wayne County to Arthur and Emma (Holst) Meier. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wakefield. Marvin attended District #33 Country School in Wayne County. On June 24, 1948 Marvin married Delores Hammer at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. He served in the Army from 1952 until 1954; serving in Japan.

Marvin was a lifelong farmer in Wayne County, farming South of Wayne and Wakefield until moving North of Wayne in 1966. Marvin semi-retired from faming when he moved to Wayne in 1997. Marvin continued to help with the farm and livestock until having knee surgery in 2006. In May 2011, Marvin moved to the Wayne Care Center.

Marvin was a member of the American Legion and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, NE. He enjoyed numerous summer vacations in Missouri to visit his relatives.

Marvin is survived by his daughter, Debra (Jim) Johnson of Wayne, NE; grandsons, Brian (Leslie) Johnson of Wayne, NE and Daniel (Amy) Johnson of Lincoln, NE; great grandchildren, Brett Johnson, Tyler Johnson and Brooklyn Johnson; sister Mardelle Brudigan of Wayne, NE; special niece, Nancy (Bob) Sutton of Wayne, NE and numerous other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Delores in 1970; parents; sister, Verna Mae (Harry) Bargholz and brother-in-law Donald Brudigan.

Ed was born July 11, 1921 to Fritz and Bertha Steiner in Emerson, NE. He attended country school near Hubbard, NE; and later worked on the farm for his sister and brother-in-law. For a short time, he worked for Goodwill Industries in South Sioux City, NE, before moving into Emerson with his family. Ed enjoyed having coffee, visiting with friends, and was known for picking up cans around Emerson.

He is survived by nephews, Leroy R. Steiner Robert L. (Susan) Steiner, nieces, Carol Steiner, Diane (Mrs. Tom) Batcheldor, Lois (Michael) Ellis, Marie Laughlin and Susan Lloyd.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann (Demers) McAfee, brother, Fred Steiner; and brother-in-law, John Demers.

Vern was born May 1, 1923 to Philo and Allie (Tucker) McAfee in rural Waterbury, NE. He attended Emerson High School. In 1943, Vern entered the United States Army. He married Dorothy Farrow, to this union, five children were born. Vern married Marie Farrow in 1969. After Marie’s passing, Vern married Ann Steiner in November of 1995 in Homer, NE.

Vern was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed working with his hands while welding toys, weathervanes and windmills. He was able to fix anything and make it work again. Vern was a farmer for many years and worked for an implement dealer. He enjoyed reading, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Vern is survived by his son, Vernon LeRoy McAfee of AZ; step son, Gerald Sommer of IL; daughters, Karen Ray Druhn of Bloomindale, IL, Evon Jo (Keith) Buck of Tuscon, AZ; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Dorothy, Marie, Ann; son, Roger Lynn McAfee; daughter, Charlotte Irene Pierce; sisters, Julia Woods, Hannah Dittes, Ester Kosht; and brothers Merle McAfee and Ray McAfee.

Joe L. Jasa, 83, of Pender NE


Joe L. Jasa, 83, of Pender, Nebraska died on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, Nebraska. Funeral services for Joe will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church near Pender, Nebraska; Pastors Steve Tjarks and Gretchen Ritola will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in the Rosehill Cemetery of Pender. A time of lunch and fellowship will be held following the committal service at the Thurston Legion Hall. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.

Joe was born on December 21, 1931 in Pender, Nebraska, the son of John and Marie (Caha) Jasa. After graduating from Pender High School in Pender, Nebraska, Joe joined the United States Army where he served during the Korean War. After returning home, he was united in marriage to Doris Jean Schopke on March 3, 1957 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, Nebraska. The couple farmed in the Emerson and Thurston area. Joe also worked at Daum Trucking, CPS in Emerson, Voss Manufacturing and for the past several years he continued to work at Blu-Jet in Thurston, Nebraska. Doris died on September 21, 2007. On October 24, 2008, he was united in marriage to Betty Copple in Pender, Nebraska. Joe enjoyed fishing, dancing and telling stories. Along with being a lifelong member of the V.F.W. he also served as Commander of the American Legion Post #372 for over 25 years.

Joe is survived by his wife Betty of Pender, NE; son Lyle Jasa of Thurston, NE; daughter Joyce (Dean) Wieser of Atlantic, IA; daughter-in-law Pam (John) Carpenter of Sioux City, IA a sister-in-law Helen Jasa of Fremont, NE; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and many nieces nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris Jean, son Dell Jasa, brother Tim and sister and brother-in-law Mary (Joe) Fillipi and an uncle Jakub Caha.
