Marilyn Jean (Dietz) Bures, 69, of Oakland NE


Marilyn Jean (Dietz) Bures, age 69, of Oakland, Nebraska passed away May 1, 2017 at Oakland Heights in Oakland, Nebraska.  Funeral services will be on Monday, May 8, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons.  Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Howells, Nebraska.  Visitation will be held Sunday, May 7th, from 5 until 7 p.m. with family receiving friends.  Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. all at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons.  Visitation will continue on Monday, at the church one hour prior to service time.  Memorials are suggested tot he family for later designation. Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Jean (Dietz) Bures was born to Edith Faye (Moran) and Erwin Dietz October 6, 1947, in Columbus, Nebraska. Marilyn grew up in Creston, Nebraska, where she graduated from Creston High School in 1965.

On September 17, 1966, Marilyn was married to Kenneth Bures in Howells, Nebraska. In 1977, they moved to Oakland, where she helped run the family business, KC Parts & Repair. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons, Nebraska. She loved playing bridge, having her family together, seeing the country on motorcycle trips, and taking weekend getaways with her daughters and daughters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Christine Elliott; and son-in-law, Thomas Elliott.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Bures of Oakland; two sons, Carl (Tammy) of Oakland, and Andrew (Jenny) of Arthur, NE; two daughters, Carin (Gordon) McGee of Arlington, NE, and Melissa (Shannon) Thomsen of Lincoln, NE; brother, Gerald Dietz of Oologah, OK; twelve grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

We have a lot of things going on this week, on Thursday April 13th we will be having a Maundy Thursday service at 2:30 pm by Pastor Hoden, then on Friday April 14th at 2:30 pm is the Good Friday service given by Pastor Hineline. On Saturday April 15th at 10:00 am the Lions Club will be hosting a Easter Egg Hunt here at Oakland Heights Nursing Home. On Easter Sunday April 16th, we will be having a Easter Breakfast at 8:00 am for residents and their family members. Next week on Thursday April 20th Charlie Davis will be here to play the Harmonica at 2:30 pm then at 5:30 pm is the monthly Waffle Supper. On Friday April 21st is Happy Hour at 2:30 pm. We have a resident celebrating a birthday next week Eleanor Sanderson on April 19th.

Church Service for Easter Sunday April 16th will be given by Evangelical Free Church at 2:30 pm with a luncheon following service.  On Monday April 17th is Communion with First Lutheran at 2:30 pm.

Activities for the week of April 17th  to April 22nd    are as follows, reading with Jill, Manicures, Sing A Long, Game Day, Bingo the w/Salem,  Reading Group, Bible Fellowship, Let’s Play Ball, Crafty Cooking, and Lawrence Walk

OC Students Visit Oakland Heights in Their Prom Attire

The residents really enjoyed the O-C students who came up to the nursing home last Saturday to show off their outfits, the residents are still talking about it.  This week is the annual Easter Bazaar on Friday April 7th from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. stop by and do some Easter shopping. Next Monday April 10th we will Root Beer floats at 2:30 pm.  On Saturday April 15th is the annual Lions Club Easter egg hunt starting at 10:00 am here at Oakland Heights  also on Saturday the Rusty Buckets will be here at 2:30 pm.We have a resident celebrating a Birthday this week, Marlene Nelson on April 8th.

Church Service for Sunday April 9th be given by First Baptist Church at 2:30 pm with a luncheon following service.  On Tuesday April 11th is Catholic Mass at 9:30 am given by Father Paul. Activities going on this week Thursday March 30th is the resident general store it will be open for residents to shop from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. On Saturday April 1st we will be having the annual Prom walk through from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm, we invite the Oakland Craig Juniors and Seniors and their dates to come up and walk through the Nursing home to show off their outfits, the residents really enjoy seeing all of the outfits, we also will have a drawing for one Senior boy and one Senior girl to receive $25.00 in Chamber bucks. Next week on Monday April 3rd is our monthly Volunteer Executive Meeting at 2:30 pm then on Friday April 7th we will once again have our Annual Easter Bazaar from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. Come up and do a little Easter Shopping.

Church Service for Sunday April 2nd be given by the Salem Covenant Church at 2:30 pm with a luncheon following service. On Wednesday April 5th is Communion with Pastor Hoden at 1:00 pm.

This week we will be having our Movie Matinee on Thursday March 23rd movie starts at 2:00 pm. Next week on Monday March 27th at 2:30 pm is the monthly Resident Council meeting. On Tuesday March 28th is the Residents Choice diner meal at 11:30 am. Thursday March 30th is the resident general store it will be open for residents to shop from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. We have a resident celebrating a birthday this, Delwin Benne has a birthday on March 23rd.

Church Service for Sunday March 26th be given by St. John Lutheran Church at 2:30 pm with a luncheon following service. On Tuesday March 28th is Catholic Mass at 9:30 am given by Father Paul.

Activities for the week of March 27th to April 1st   are as follows, reading with Jill, Manicures, Sing A Long, Game Day, Bingo the w/VFW Aux., Reading Group, Bible Fellowship, Let’s Play Ball, Crafty Cooking, Saturday Movie, and Lawrence Walk.

Special activities next week is Waffle Supper on Thursday March 16th serving at 5:30 pm, then on Friday March 17th St. Patrick’s Day we will be having a St. Patrick’s Day Happy Hour party combination starting at 2:30 pm. Then on Saturday March 19th the Rusty Buckets will be here to play music at 2:30 pm.

Church Service for Sunday March 12th be given by Elim Lutheran Church at 2:30 pm with a luncheon following service. On Tuesday March 14th is Catholic Mass at 9:30 am given by Father Paul.
