Durwood Kent Bunderson, 84, of Oakland NE


Durwood Kent Bunderson was born on March 15, 1932 in rural Burt County, Nebraska to Oscar and Dorlene (Lester) Bunderson. Kent passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, NE.

Kent spent most of his life serving his friends, family and community in Burt County. Kent worked for Northwestern Bell for nearly 33 years as a union employee and installed the first dialed telephone in Fremont, NE.

Upon his retirement from Northwestern Bell, Kent and Myra (Gatzemeyer) enjoyed traveling and fishing. For many years they wintered in Florida.

Often Kent’s catches were the main course of numerous fish fries he cooked and served his family and friends.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was a loyal, honest and hardworking man who treasured his friends and family.

Kent was loved and will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings: Lester, Jim and Jeanne.

Kent is survived by his wife, of 43 years, Myra of Oakland; five children: Janet (Lee) Bunderson of Camdenton, MO, Kathy (Jo) Peterson of Omaha, NE, William (Eric) Bunderson of Omaha, Sandra Hille Weisman of Columbia, MO, Larry Hille of Fremont, NE; 12 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Visitation is Tues., June 7th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland with family receiving friends.

The Funeral Service is Wed., June 8th at 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial is in the Craig Cemetery.

Memorials suggested to the family for designation at a later time.

Robert “Skeeter” Deemer, 69, of Tekamah NE


Robert “Skeeter” Deemer, 69 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Tues., April 12th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah. The family will also be receiving friends during this time.

The Memorial Service will be Wed., April 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah.

Burial is in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Memorials are Suggested to the family for designation at a later time.

Oakland Mercy Hospital to Have Open House


Oakland Mercy Hospital invites everyone to attend an open house tomorrow (Thurs.) from 5:00-6:30 p.m. The hospital has undergone several renovations and is offering a tour to all in attendance.

“The tour will feature the new mammography and dexa scan room, the expansion of the emergency room and the renovated treatment rooms,” said Mona Tanksley, Director of Health Information Management at Oakland Mercy Hospital.

Come with an appetite! “Grilled hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served to those attending,” Mona stated.

The hospital staff is excited to show off their renovations to the public. “We hope to see everyone at our open house,” said John Werner, Oakland Mercy Hospital Administrator.

HOLLIS BRUCE ANDERSON, 72 years, of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014, at Oakland Mercy Hospital.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, May 23, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

VISITATION: Thursday, May 22nd, 4 – 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 – 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation Friday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.
