Helen Hohenstein, 74 years, of Lyons, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at her home in Lyons.

Eva Dale (Miller) Climer, 89, of Lyons NE


Eva Dale (Miller) Climer was born on April 13, 1927 in rural Craig, Nebraska, near the Bertha Community, to Hurley and Hattie (Patrick) Martin Miller. She passed away on August 17, 2016 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 89 years.

Eva enjoyed horseback riding, sledding, and other outdoor activities with her childhood friends and family. She attended rural Bertha school District 36 and graduated from Oakland High School in 1944. After graduation, Eva moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she worked for Mutual of Omaha.

Eva married Donald Climer on December 3, 1945 at the First United Methodist Church in Oakland. To this union three children were born, Michael, Randal and William. In 1945, Eva and Don moved to Thurston County and began farming. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Walthill, Nebraska. In the spring of 1956, they moved to the Bertha area and continued farming. Eva was a member of the Divide Center Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and youth groups for many years. She was also a member of the Mariners.

After Don’s death in 1999, Eva moved to Lyons, Nebraska where she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed family activities, and loved attending her grandchildren’s sports events. Eva loved her flower garden and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; six brothers, Irvin Miller, Glen Miller, Elwood Miller, Raymond Martin, William Miller, Robert Miller; two sisters, Lula (Miller) Helms, Nadine (Martin) Simpson; one grandchild, Claude Climer.

Eva is survived by her three sons, Michael Climer of Omaha, Randal Climer of Omaha, and William (Elaine) Climer of Lyons, Nebraska; seven grandchildren Lisa (Craig Brown) Climer,
Melanie (Israel) Climer-Wilson, Mitchell Climer and Heather Carlson, William Climer Jr,
Christopher Climer, Claire Climer, Charise Climer; seven great grandchildren, Dylan Climer, Danielle Climer and Chance Wright, Reagan Wilson, Hailley Wilson, Addie Brown, Bess Brown, Kingston Climer; other relatives and friends.

Memorial Visitation is Mon., Aug. 22nd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons. Family will receive friends with Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.

The Memorial Service is Tues., Aug. 23red at 1:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons.

Burial is in the Lyons Cemetery.

Todd O. Parker, 52 of Rosalie NE


Todd O. Parker, A humble man whom loved many and was loved by many, went to be with the Spirits in the sky in the early hours of July 15th 2016 after just 52 short years of enjoying all that life had to offer.

Todd was born to Orville and Shirley Parker on May 4th 1964. He made many memories in his Hometown of Rosalie, NE. He graduated in 1983 from Bancroft Rosalie High school. After a year at UTI Tech he went on to become a Machinist at Omaha Line Hydraulics in Walthill, NE, he followed the company to N. Sioux City, SD. He spent the better part of 20 plus years living in Sioux City, IA and working with many great people there. He eventually moved on and enjoyed working at McArthurs Sheet Metal in S. Sioux City NE.

Todd’s sense of humor and infectious smile will always be remembered by everyone that was blessed to have known him.

He loved nothing more than having a great time with friends and family, Bob Seger and a cold drink made for great memories with him. You could always find him traveling along Hwy 77 North and South anywhere between Sioux City, IA and Fremont, NE looking to visit with loved ones and kick back for a good time.
Whenever he got the chance he would sneak away to the river and relax on the water with a pole and enjoy nature.

He leaves behind many friends and extended family to carry on his memory, stories and laughter.

Survivors include his brother, Timothy (Jennifer) Parker of Walthill, NE; sister, Courtney Johnson & family of MN; grandchildren: Charles Webb, Maggie Mae & Frank Dolezal of Lyons, NE; and his special friend, Dianne Milbrodt of Hooper, NE; and many cousins.

Todd is reunited in heaven with his parents, Orville & Shirley Parker; grandparents: Manford “Jack” & Margaret Peterson and Logan & Ethel Parker; along with many other loved ones that preceded him.

The Memorial Service will be held Wed., July 20th at 1:00 p.m. at the Rosalie Town Hall in Rosalie, NE. There will not be a visitation.

Burial will be at a later date.

Memorials suggested to the family for designation at a later time.

 

Melba Slaughter, 96, of Sergeant Bluff IA Formerly of Bancroft NE


Melba was born to Homer and Linda (Hilker) Powley on a farm northeast of Bancroft, Nebraska on Dec.16, 1919. She passed away May 6, 2016 at the Floyd Place in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, at the age of 96 years.

She lived most of her life in Thurston County and received her education at a country school near Pender NE through 8th grade.

On June 21, 1938 she married Alton (Buck) Slaughter. To this union four children were born; Lonnie, Patricia. Eugene and Barbara

They lived on a farm near Thurston, and later moved to the Slaughter farm northeast of Pender. In 1943 they moved to a farm east of Rosalie and lived there until Buck died in 1988. Later that year Melba moved to Lyons, until May of 2015, when she moved to the Floyd Place in Sergeant Bluff.

Melba has been a member of the United Methodist Church in Rosalie for 73 years. She also enjoyed many years as a member of the Parks Project Club.

Melba was proud of, and enjoyed, all of her children and grandchildren. She especially liked to follow them in all of their sports and other activities. She loved to cook and bake pies; she looked forward to her daily newspaper, and working the crossword puzzle

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alton; son, Eugene Slaughter; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Paul Brewer; grandchildren, Scott Slaughter and Sherry Slaughter; four sisters; three brothers.

Melba is survived by her son, Lonnie (Carol) Slaughter of Sergeant Bluff; daughter, Patricia (Roger) Andersen of Lyons; daughter-in-law, Sharon Slaughter of Lyons; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Lee Slaughter.

Visitation is Sun., May 8th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons with family receiving friends.

The Funeral Service is Mon., May 9th at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Rosalie.

Burial is in the Lyons Cemetery.

Norma Potadle, 88


Norma Agatha Potadle was born on October 20, 1927 to Harold and Agatha (Kohlmeier) Wolf in Danville, Illinois. She passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Nebraska Skilled Nursing Facility in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 88 years.

She graduated from Lyons High School in 1945, and attended Dana College through 1971, becoming a teacher. In 1997, she was baptized at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha. She was confirmed at Christ the King Church in Omaha on May 31, 2000. Norma also enjoyed playing the piano for many years, sharing her gift through piano lessons and playing in the church. Some of her favorite hymns were “Lift High the Cross”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Beneath the Cross of Jesus”.

She is survived by her two sons, Paul and Mark.

A Graveside Service will be held Thurs., April 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Lyons Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3rd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons. Family will be receiving friends during this time.

The Funeral Service is Monday, April 4th at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

Elsie Hansen, 98, of Lyons NE


Elsie Wilhelmina Hansen was born June 22, 1917 to Henry and Emma (Hoegemeyer) Heitshusen on their farm east of Lyons. She passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 98.

Elsie was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and later joined the Divide Center Presbyterian Church. She transferred her membership to the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons in 1979.

Elsie attended rural school at Viles School District 56 for eleven years and graduated in 1935 from Lyons High School. She was secretary for Johnson Commission Company at the Livestock Exchange Building in Omaha several years before her marriage to Harry L. Hansen in 1942. Two daughters were born to this union; Marinell and Carolie.

Harry and Elsie lived on a farm east of Lyons, in the Divide Center Community. They left the farm in 1982 and retired in Lyons. Elsie enjoyed traveling, playing cards and gardening.

The past year she has lived at Golden Living Center in Tekamah, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; four brothers, Elmer, Clifton, Lloyd, Norman; two sisters, Bernice Nelson, Gladys McKenzie.

She is survived by her two daughters, Marinell (Gary) Neuhaus of Omaha, Carolie (Daniel) Smith of Lyons; three grandchildren, Jay (Alicia Klein) Neuhaus of Zurich, Switzerland, Jacquie (Erik) Nordwall of Shoreview, MN, Heather (Jason) Lauritsen of Lyons; two great grandchildren, Aubrey and Blake Lauritsen.

A Memorial Visitation will be on Friday, April 8th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons. Family will be receiving friends during this time.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons.

Burial is in the Lyons Cemetery.
