Joseph E. Mitchell, 61, of Fremont NE


Joseph E. Mitchell was born to Calvin and Mary Lou (Dinkins) Mitchell February 13, 1954, in Winnebago, Nebraska. He passed away with his loved ones surrounding him on January 11, 2016.

As a child, Joe attended 6R District School, District 19, Tobin Country School, then transferred to Tekamah-Herman School where he graduated in 1972. Joe enlisted into the U.S. Navy immediately after graduating where he served his country from 1973 to 1984. He was a member of the Craig American Legion.

In August 1979, he married Mila Morales and they had four daughters and one son.

Joe was a fun-loving free spirit, with a mischievous, teasing personality. He loved being surrounded by his children and grandchildren, and cooking for all of them. He looked forward to hunting morel mushrooms with his friends and family every year and was also a huge Husker fan.

On January 28, 2006, Joe remarried to Marcia Elske in Tekamah, Nebraska. They lived out the rest of their lives in Fremont, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Mitchell in 1984; his brother, Jim Mitchell in 1989; and his wife, Marcia Mitchell in 2015.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Lou Johnson of Tekamah; his siblings, Art & Mary Mitchell of Tekamah, Kathy & Scott McGowen of Tuscan, Arizona, Linda & Ron Harold of Craig, NE, Carol Mitchell of Tekamah, and Don Mitchell of Craig; his children, Mandy & Tony Reynolds of Omaha, NE, Mike & Nicole Mitchell of Omaha, Ida Mitchell of Port St. Lucie, FL, Cherri & Brent Schmidt of Omaha, Brandy & Etienne Amion of Omaha, and Josh & Jennifer Johnson of Lincoln, NE; 6 nieces and nephews; 11 great nieces and nephews; 22 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.

Visitation will be Wed., Jan. 13th from 5:00-7:00 at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah.

The Funeral Service will be Thurs., Jan. 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah.

Robert Kenneth Weatherly, Sr., 93, of Tekamah NE


ROBERT KENNETH WEATHERLY, SR. was born to Fredrick and Jessie (McCloud) Weatherly in Cheyenne, Oklahoma on November 3, 1921. He passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at his residence in Tekamah, Nebraska

R.K. grew up in the Belgrade, Fullerton, Nebraska area, and along with his brothers and sister, came to settle in Tekamah.

On November 5, 1941, R.K. was married to Verna Nylene Underwood in Belgrade. They lived most of their lives on farms around Tekamah, where he enjoyed farming and selling irrigation. They moved into Tekamah in 1975.

R.K. was a member of the United Methodist Church of Tekamah, Master Mason of Tekamah Lodge #31, Tangier Shriners, proud Burt County Democrat, and loyal supporter of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

R.K. was preceded in death by his brother, F.M. Weatherly; sister, Dorothy Rieken; grandson, Michael Weatherly.

R.K. is survived by his wife of 73 years, Verna Nylene Underwood Weatherly, of Tekamah; children, Patricia Ann Nicholls, of Claremore, OK, Robert Kenneth (Beth) Weatherly, Jr., of Fremont, NE, Jerry Lynn Weatherly, of Bellevue, NE; three grandchildren, Mark (Amanda) Nicholls, of Irving, TX, Bruce (Teresa) Nicholls, of Claremore, Jill Weatherly, of Lincoln, NE; five great grandchildren, Tyler and Grant Nicholls of Claremore, Tori, Micah and Laura Nicholls of Irving. R.K. is also survived by brothers Sam (Jo) Weatherly, of Algona, IA, Denzel (Lois) Weatherly, of Tekamah; many nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL and MASONIC SERVICE: Monday, March 16, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Tekamah.

MEMORIAL GATHERING: Sunday, 5-7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah.

Duane L. Snow, 78, of Blair NE


Duane L. Snow was born March 9, 1936 to Everett and Jessie (Palmer) Snow on a farm southeast of Decatur, Nebraska. He passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at CHI Immanuel Medical Center, in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 78 years.

Duane and his family moved to a farm northwest of Tekamah, Nebraska. He attended Paddock School, and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1954. He lost a year of school because of his affliction with polio, and much of that time was spent in an Omaha hospital.

His first job was at Quirk and Morris Dehy plant in Tekamah. He also worked as a mechanic for Mayberry’s automotive Repair and Ellis Oil. He later purchased Ellis Oil and operated Duane’s Corner Service for several years. He also worked for Midwest Capitol, in Omaha, as an insurance agent.

He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and gunsmithing. His faith in Christ and Christian growth were deepened through the love and friendship of his small group at Country Bible Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Deloris (Myrl) Fleischman, Delena (Harold) Williams, Cleo (Bill) Gordon.

He is survived by daughter, Marcie (Dave) Reed, of Blair, NE; son, Darren Snow; special friend, Wanda Blankenbeckler, of Blair; grandchildren, Brittany Reed, of Lincoln, NE, Josh, Ashley, Ella and Kyler Reed, all of Blair, Devon Snow, of Omaha; brother, Lyle (Judy) Snow, of Tekamah, many relatives and friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, February 17, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the Country Bible Church, Blair, Nebraska.
