Update on Roundabout at Highway 77/32

The Nebraska Department of Roads reports that the contractor has been delayed in closing highway 32 east towards Tekamah due to last week’s rain. The Department of Roads plans on closing the highway next week, either April 23rd or 24th (Thurs. or Fri.), if Mother Nature allows.

Construction Ready to Begin Again on Roundabout

Work is set begin again soon on the roundabout at the Highway 32/77 junction. “The contractor plans on returning to the project on Monday, April 6th,” said Kevin Domogalla of the Nebraska Department of Roads.

The workers will begin by grading and surfacing the temporary road. “That work will take approximately three weeks,” Domogalla stated.

After that, the east left of the intersection, Highway 32 towards Tekamah, will be closed after the temporary road is open to traffic. “The contractor will then begin constructing the roundabout. Highway 77, north and south, and west Highway 32 to West Point, will remain open during all phases of construction,” said Domogalla.

Update on Roundabout at the Junction of Hwy 32/77

The much-anticipated roundabout at the junction of highway77/32, which experienced delays due to weather, is in the beginning stages.

“The crews are grading areas for temporary roads, which will be temporary detours for the traffic while the roundabout is being constructed,” stated Jeff Francis from the Nebraska Department of Roads.

As previously reported by Kat Country Hub, the purpose of the roundabout is to reduce high-speed right angle crashes at the intersection. Over the years, there have been many accidents at the 77/32 Junction, resulting in many injuries, and, unfortunately, some fatalities.

Once the grading in complete, in approximately a month, construction of the roundabout will begin. There are five phases and two stages, which will result in different detours until construction is complete. “Once we have traffic going on the detours, hopefully in mid-September, we will be closing Highway 32 East to Tekamah,” Francis said. “When the time nears, more information will be released.”

A completion date for sometime in November is still anticipated. “This, of course, depends on how the weather cooperates,” Francis stated.

Stay tuned to Kat Country Hub for updates on detours and construction dates as the time approaches.

Roundabout Construction Scheduled to Begin on Monday

There is a new start date for construction of the roundabout at Highway 77/32 junction. It was originally scheduled to begin on July 7th. “The contractor requested a short delay in the starting of the project due to rain delays on other projects they were working on this spring. The new start date will be July 28th,” stated Kevin Domogalla of the Nebraska Department of Roads.

The purpose of the roundabout is to reduce high speed right angle crashes at the intersection. There are five phases in constructing the roundabout and two stages, resulting in detours that may cause some travellers a longer distance in reaching their destination.

There will be 75 working days allowed for the contractor to finish the project. “Jeff Francis, our Project Manager, will be meeting with the contractor in the next few days to discuss their work schedule,” Domogalla said. “He will have a better idea after his meeting on what the first orders of business will be on the 28th”.

Roundabout Start Date Approaching

“The purpose of building the roundabout is to reduce high speed right angle crashes at the intersection,” stated Kevin Domogalla from the Nebraska Department of Roads.

Construction of the roundabout at the intersection of Highways 32 and 77 on the south edge of Oakland is set to begin July 14th. “Crews are working there now taking down trees before nesting season,” Domogalla said.

The project is expected to be complete in November. “The crew will have seventy-five working days to complete the roundabout. This is taking weather into consideration,” Domogalla stated.

The roundabout will be designed to handle semi traffic. “It will be the largest radius circle,” Domogalla said.

Traffic will have detours to follow during construction. “There are five phases of construction of the roundabout and each phase has two stages. Traffic will be re-routed accordingly,” Domogalla stated.

As always, Kat Country Hub will keep readers informed as to the status of the roundabout and necessary detour information provided from the Nebraska Department of Roads.
