Verle Henry Vogler, 91 of Herman, NE

Verle Henry Vogler was born July 18, 1922, the youngest of 8 children, to Henry Carl and Amelia (Kraft) Vogler on the family farm in Louisville, Nebraska. He passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska.
Verle was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Louisville, one mile from the family home.
He went to grade school with a horse and buggy 2 ½ miles and took the drinking water along because the well at school was bad. He drove to high school, in Louisville, in a 1928 Chevy car and graduated in 1939. On October 1, 1942, he enlisted in the US Army Corp. He was a P51 fighter plane mechanic and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1946.
On August 21, 1948, Verle married Betty Jean Thornton in Omaha, Nebraska and raised three children: Douglas, Darlene and Pamela.
He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, loved nature, loved farming, loved the land, an avid reader and enjoyed watching men’s and women’s college sports.
He lived on a farm all his life, in Louisville, from 1948-1952, on a farm by Springfield, NE, from 1952-1968, on a farm by Tekamah, NE from 1968-1994 and finally on an acreage by Herman to present time. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.
Verle was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Herman and Willis; sisters, Pauline Kupke, Hilda Vogler, Iola Wendt, Lonella Koterzina and Elda Waracka.
Verle is survived by his three children, Douglas of Tekamah, Darlene (Steve) Bacon of Pleasant Hill, IA, Pamela Vogler-Benson of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren, Dylan and Dalton Benson of Omaha, Heather Vogler-Fischer of Omaha, Teresa Braniff of Tekamah; six great grandchildren, Alivia, Ethan, Julianna, Lukus, Thomas and Savannah Braniff; 10 nieces and nephews.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 10:30 am, from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair, NE
BURIAL: Immanuel Cemetery, Louisville, NE
VISITATION: Friday, March 14, 4-8 pm with family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services, Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.
