Lyons Awarded Grant for Business Expansion

DECEMBER 9, 2013 (LINCOLN, NEB.)—The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has awarded $255,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to Lyons, Neb., to assist with a business expansion. The project will create 10 full-time positions of which 51 percent will be made available to low and middle-income earning individuals.

Lyons will loan $250,000 CDBG to Brehmer Manufacturing, Inc., to construct a 10,000 sq. ft. addition to its existing facility; build an access road to the addition; and purchase equipment, including tools, a welding machine, air compressor and forklift. The remaining $5,000 will be applied to administration costs.

An additional $300,300 in owner equity and financing from First National Bank Northeast will complete the project.

Founded in 1974, Brehmer Manufacturing custom builds metal products for the truck and agricultural industries. In 1998, the company expanded its manufacturing capacity, becoming a premier manufacturer of truck, tire recycling, and livestock equipment for domestic and international markets.

Federal funds are made available to Nebraska from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s CDBG program, which assists with the development of businesses and communities throughout the state.
