JANICE R. NELSON, 85 years, of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away, Thursday, May 8, 2014 at her home in Oakland.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, May 12, 2014, 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Oakland.

VISITATION: Sunday, 5-8 pm with family receiving friends from 6-8 pm at the Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to services.

BURIAL: Craig Cemetery, Craig, Nebraska

Hannah Christiansen, daughter of Lisa and Tavis Christiansen. Activities: One Acts for 2 years, FBLA, one year, Student Council one year and volleyball for four years. Honors: Volleyball, 4 years and 4 letters and honorable mention all-conference and two volleyball records. Hannah plans to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University to major in elementary education. Her favorite memory at LDNE is when her and others would go to her house after a football game and have a bonfire.

It was the experience of a lifetime.

Marcella J. (Schindler) Stimson, 93 of Emerson, NE


Marcella J. (Schindler) Stimson, 93, of Emerson, NE passed away Wednesday, May 07, 2014 at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson, NE. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson; Pastor Gretchen Ritola will be officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangement are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Emerson, NE.

Marcella was born December 20, 1920 to John and Lydia (Heckens) Schindler in Emerson, NE. She graduated from Emerson High School. In 1941, she graduated college with a teaching degree. In 1945 she married Theodore Stimson. She was a teacher at a country school near Emerson, and later taught at the Emerson High School. Marcella enjoyed working in her garden and yard and sewing. She was a lifelong member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE. She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Leo G. Morgan, 82, of Blair, NE formerly of Walthill, NE passed away Wednesday, May 07, 2014 surrounded by his family at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walthill, NE; with Father Dan Wittrock officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Leo was born December 15, 1931 in Onawa, IA to William and Doris (Hinrickson) Morgan. He attended grade school in Mapleton, IA. He married Charlotte McBride June 19, 1951; to this union, six children were born. Leo was a member of the Walthill Fire Department, Community Club, Gun Club, Walthill City Council and Mayor, and the Nebraska Coon Hunters Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and carpentry. He was also a master electrician.

Leo is survived by wife; Charlotte Morgan of Blair, NE, son; Leonard and Beverly Morgan of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Michael and Janice Morgan of Crestwood, KY, Patrick and Ronda Morgan of Madison, NE, Earl “Bud” and Cathy Morgan of Blair, NE, daughter; Sandra Terveer of Humboldt, IN, sisters; Helen Hesse, of Alta, IA, Doris and Jim Mauch of Soldier, IA, sister-in-laws; Fran Morgan of Denison, IA, Shirley McBride of Kenosha, WI, brothers; Walter and Betty Morgan of Castana, IA, Danny and Louise Morgan of Sioux City, IA, and Rex and Debbie Morgan of Castana, IA, brother-in-law Marvin and Mary McBride of Kenosha, WI, and Merlin Jensen of Gowrie, IA, 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Leo is preceded in by his parents, parents-in-law, son; Gary Morgan, grandchild; Elizebeth, siblings; James, Betty VerDean, William, and Larry, in-laws; William and Earl McBride, and Bessie and Orval Mauch, and Wilma Jensen.

Oakland Police Officer Ed Hollander has resigned from the Oakland Police Department. He is leaving the community to take a job in Alliance with the railroad. The City of Oakland is honoring his service to the Oakland Police Department with a farewell coffee Friday, May 9th at 4:00 p.m. at the Rosen Room in the Oakland City Auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend to thank Ed for his service to Oakland and wish him well at his new job!
