Leona F. Hultquist, age 87, of Fremont, Nebraska passed away early Friday morning, July 22, 2016. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Fremont. The committal will be at 1:30 PM in the Westside Cemetery near Oakland. Visitation will be held at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, on Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for distribution. Leona was born January 15, 1929 in West Point to Bodolf and Frances (Olson) Nissen. She grew up on the family farm near Oakland. She attended Oakland High School.
On August 19, 1948, Leona was married in the Westside Methodist Church near Oakland to Harold R. Hultquist. They farmed near Oakland. Leona worked as a waitress in Oakland and also was an aid in the Oakland Hospital. The couple moved to Fremont in 1977 and she worked as a unit secretary in the Fremont hospital for 15 years.
Leona was a member of the first United Methodist Church of Fremont and had been involved in various activities there, including the Methodist Quilters. She also belonged to the Prairie Piecemakers (quilters) and Red Hats. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crafting, decorating, gardening, and genealogy. She was proud of her Danish heritage, more so after visiting her relatives in Denmark several times.
She was preceded in death by parents, 4 brothers: LeRoy, Danny, Myron and wife Prudy, and Marlin Nissen, 2 brothers-in-law Duane and Arnie.
