Frances Ann Jensen, 90, of Tekamah Ne and Vernon Cleave Marine, 86, of Craig NE


Frances Ann Jensen, age 90 of Tekamah, NE & Vernon Cleave Marine, age 86, of Craig, NE graveside services will be held Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, for Frances Jensen and her brother, Vernon Marine.

Vernon Marine’s services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Arizona Cemetery, Burt County, next to his two brothers.  Frances Jensen’s graveside services to follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Seventh-Day Adventist Rural Community Cemetery.

After the graveside services, neighbors, friends and family are invited to gather at the meeting lodge of Bluff Haven, located 1.5 miles south of Decatur, to visit and reminisce with a slide show of the life of Vernon and Frances.

Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah are in charge of arrangements.

Vernon Cleave Marine, age 86, was born April 26, 1927, in rural Craig. He died February 6, 2014, in Claremore, Okla.  He grew up farming in the Tekamah/Lyons area when horses were a way of life, from the teams for farming to the saddle horses for school. In 1947 he married Joyce Cates. They had three children, Dennis, Duane and Kristie. Vernon farmed and rode colts for customers as well as his own horses.

In 1963 he moved to California and worked for Tooby Brothers Cattle Co. In 1965 he opened a training and boarding stable in Napa, Calif., and also worked the livestock sale barn in Dixon, Calif. He moved to Woodburn, Ore., in 1973 to start Vern’s Janitorial. Later he picked up a small team of mules for plowing contests, which he enjoyed. He looked forward to packing in with the horses and mules in the wilderness area in Eastern Oregon to elk hunt with his son, Dennis, and friends.

Late 1993 Vernon retired and sold his business and moved to Claremore. He met a man from West Texas that needed someone to haul horses to and from the ranch. He also worked the local livestock sale barn and did some regular trail rides in different areas.

Survivors include his sons, Dennis of Vacaville, Calif., and Duane of Fremont, Neb.; daughter, Kristie (Marine) Lindholm of Lincoln, Neb.; 5 grandchildren, Barbra (Marine) Hanzy of Woodland, Calif., Michelle Fatica of Fremont, Adam Marine of Grand Island, Neb., Mandy Marine of Fremont and Nicole Lasenieks of Lincoln; and 8 great-grandchildren.

 

Frances Ann Jensen, age 90, of Tekamah, Neb., died January 19, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Berrien Springs, Mich.   She was born April 2, 1925, in rural Craig, Burt Co., Neb. She married Gerald Jensen in 1943 and they spent their lifetime raising Hereford cattle and quarter horses in the Silver Creek community. Here they brought up two children, Karan and Victor, to love and value rural life. She was passionate about vegetable gardening, preserving and growing flowers. Frances had been active in the community, as a member of the Tekamah Seventh-Day Adventist Church, holding many offices, helping with fund drives. She was a charter member of the Tri-County Saddle Club, served many years on the Silver Creek Township election board, and was active in the local, county and state levels of extension clubs.

Survivors include her daughter, Karan (Wayne) Bennett, of Berrien Springs; son, Victor (Marlys) Jensen of Tekamah; nine grandchildren, Kami, Kari, Karla, Justin, Jay, Kristine, Jared, Joel and Josh; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

 

Betty Trotter, 87, of Herman NE


Betty Jane (Corbin) Trotter was born March 2, 1929 in rural Tekamah, Nebraska to Leo F. and Eva Jane (Pratt) Corbin. She passed away Friday, July 29, 2016 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland after complications from several falls.

Betty attended Tekamah schools and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1946. She attended one semester at Wayne State College before accepting a position at the First National Bank in Tekamah and was later employed by the Herman State Bank. She and William Russell Trotter were married October 14, 1951. They had three children: Barbara Jane, Brenda Jo and David Russell. Betty and Russell lived in Herman for over 60 years before moving to Oakland Heights Assisted Living in the spring of 2016.

She joined the First Presbyterian Church of Tekamah on April 1st, 1945. She had been active in Presbyterian Women, taught Sunday school, and had helped with the after school kids’ Logos program. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Herman Legion Auxiliary and the local Betty Club. She was also involved in book club, bridge clubs, and the Chatt Senior Center. She enjoyed writing notes and sending cards to friends & family, knitting, reading, family vacations in Minnesota in the summers and wintering in Texas with Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Leo F. Corbin, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Russell; daughters: Barbara (Steve) Frank of Westmoreland, KS, Brenda of Oakland, NE; son, David (Sara) of Rochester, MN; grandchildren: Joshua (Kylee) Frank of Manhattan, KS, Jordan (Diane) Frank of Myrtle Point, OR, John Frank and Rachel Frank of Westmoreland, Samuel and Lucas Trotter of Rochester, MN; and great-granddaughter, Emery Eden Frank of Manhattan, KS.

The Memorial Service will be held on Sat., Aug. 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah NE.

A Private Family Burial will take place at the Herman Cemetery.

Memorials suggested to the family for designation at a later time.
