Gary was raised in Herman, Nebraska and graduated from Herman high school in 1967, where he was active in baseball, basketball, and choir.

After high school, Gary was drafted to the army where he served for four years. After his service, he returned home and took a job locally, and not long after married and had two children; Ryan Brummond and Joelle (Brummond) Vogltance.

From the time he was young, Gary loved the outdoors and spent his time hunting, fishing, riding horses and training his dog(s). Some would even say he was quite a dancer. His favorite times were spent on drives in the country with family and friends, and he was never one to turn away from a good practical joke.  He had a great sense of humor and was loved by many.

Gary spent the majority of his career working as the rural mail carrier for the Tekamah Post Office.

What Gary enjoyed most was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Throughout his life he never missed an event his children participated in and never missed an opportunity to talk to others about his grand kids.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Chay Brummond; his brothers: James Brummond, Doug Brummond, and brother in law, Jerry Triplett; sisters: Carol Ann Brummond and Connie Bowland; and his special dog, Ellie.
