A high school mission team from Southwoods Christian Church in Overland Park Kansas blessed Oakland with 24 hours of their presence today while on a trip they call “Destination Unknown”.
Each evening they draw a number out of a hat for the number of miles to travel and out of another hat they draw a direction. The following morning they head that way and when they arrive in that town they try to find service work to do and lodging if possible, or they camp at a nearby campground.
While in Oakland the Golden Oaks Senior Center played host, providing space in their air-conditioned building for sleep and meals. The young people mowed a resident’s lawn; trimmed bushes and pulled weeds at Oakland-Craig high school; primed and painted the stone figures at Four Trees Park; trimmed a residents tall bushes and helped with an electrical garage door, assisted the Itty-bitty shop my moving furniture and boxes.
The group would like to thank the generosity from Nelson’s Food pride, Flip Flop Farm Gurl, “Doc” Charlie Seagren, and Bob and LaVonne Martin.
“Like God always does, while we were trying to be a blessing we got blessed back abundantly”
