Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Kubik, 62, of Pender NE


Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Kubik, 62, of Pender, NE died on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE.  Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; Pastor Beverly Rautenberg-Panko will be officiating.  Burial will follow lunch at the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE.  Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Pender is in charge of the arrangements.

Cindy was born on December 13, 1954 in Pender, NE, the daughter of Darrel and Karen (Hulsebusch) Baker.  She attended school in Pender, graduating in 1973.  In March of 1974, she was united in marriage to Dan Kubik at Toledo, IA.  They later divorced.  Cindy worked at Mary Ann’s Quilt Shop in Pender and later went on to work at IBP for 15 years.  She also worked for Smith Farm Service, and most recently at Thurston County as a 911 dispatcher.  Cindy enjoyed counted cross stitch, sewing and reading.  Most of all she loved the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

Cindy is survived by her son David Kubik of Hastings, NE; daughter Amanda (James) Ferris of Sergeant Bluff, IA; mother Karen Dahlman of Pender, NE; and four grandchildren.  She is also survived by a sister Jenny (Verne) Tyrrell of Pender, NE; brothers, Brian (Val) Baker of Wakefield, NE, Brad Baker of Pender, NE; step brothers, Steve Shemat of Calais, ME and John Shemat of Pender, NE.

She was preceded in death by her father, Darrel Baker and step brother Vincent Shemat.

Fauniel Paulson, 88 years, of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, in Sioux City, Iowa.

Marie E. Crom, 93, of Omaha NE Formerly of Tekamah and Oakland NE


Marie E. Crom was born December 2, 1923 in Tekamah, Nebraska to George O. and Amy (Johnson) Nelson. She passed away August 15, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Community in Blair, Nebraska, at the age of 93 years.

Marie attended country schools and graduated from Oakland High School. She went on to attend college at Wayne State & Midland College. She taught at various local schools. After several years of teaching, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska and went to work for Brandeis. She took a comptometer course and then went to work for Paxton & Gallegher.

Marie was married to Clarence E. Crom at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland, Nebraska on March 19, 1950. They lived in Exira & Audubon, Iowa before moving to Onawa, Iowa in 1959.

Marie was active in her church, was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years, and was a leader for Camp Fire Girls & 4-H.

Clarence and Marie lived in Platte City, Missouri for a couple of years before moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1981. Marie returned to Omaha in 1994, after the death of her husband.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant brother, Warren; brothers, Lester and Kenneth; sister-in-law, Ann.

She is survived by her children: Richard (Terry) of Omaha, Paul (Linda) of Holdrege, NE, Roger (Debra) of Bennington, NE, Sharon (Hilbert) Hurd of Enterprise, AL, Carol of Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren: Michael of Holdrege, Anthony (Michele) of Lincoln, NE, Amy Crom and Julie (Jeoffrey) Emert of Council Bluffs, IA, Sarah (Matthew) McGlynn of Omaha, Stephanie (Jeremy) Stacy and Bradley Hurd of Oxford, AL; ten great grandkids: Brandon and J.D. Crom of Lincoln, Adam Crom, Logan and Ian McGlynn, and Austin Busse of Omaha, Liam, Olivia and Charlotte Emert of Council Bluffs, Ethan Stacy of Oxford; brother, Howard (Carol) Nelson of King George, VA; sister, Phyllis (Glenn) Barth of Elkhorn, NE; sisters-in-law, Joyce Nelson of Lakeland, FL, Emma Crom of Bend, OR; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marie Crom

Jeanette M. (Carson) Johnson, 84, of Oakland NE


Jeanette M. (Carson) Johnson was born to Glen and Mabel (Olson) Carson in Lyons, Nebraska on February 3, 1933. She passed away August 16, 2017 at Premier Estates of Fremont in Fremont, Nebraska, at the age of 84 years.

Jeanette fell in love and married Dale Oscar Johnson on October 12, 1950 at the Methodist Parsonage in Oakland, Nebraska. Together they built their lives in Oakland and raised a family of four daughters: Kristie, Janelle, Marla and Lynnette. Jeanette and Dale spent 66 years of married life alongside each other.

Jeanette worked at the Oakland Hospital and later assisted Dr. Hadley at his office in Lyons for many years. Following retirement, Jeanette was co-owner of Dime Store Days Antique Mall in Fremont before retiring again in 2012. She was a devoted volunteer at the Golden Oaks Senior Center and a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Oakland.

Jeanette never stopped moving and doing. She was widely renowned and deeply loved for her extraordinary Swedish rye bread, raisin cream pie and fried chicken. She made certain that Dale’s annual garden produce was canned, frozen or put on the table as part of a garden-fresh summer supper. Christmas at the Johnsons’ was celebrated each year with Jeanette’s Swedish Rice Ring, Ostkaka, and her Swedish Coffee Ring.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Dale; brothers: Lloyd, Donald, Jack, Kenley and three infant brothers; sisters: Mary Lou, Julia, Opal and Joyce.

She is survived by her adoring daughters: Kristie (Patrick) Peters of Crystal, MN, Janelle (Tom) Van Scoy, Marla Peterson and Lynnette (Curt) Goracke all of Fremont; granddaughters: Heather (Robert) Martin-Batt, Brooke Goracke, Haley (Tom) Goracke-Fruen, Emily Perina, Celia (Jake) Gant; grandsons: Jason (Darcy) Martin, Seth Perina, Andrew (Brittney) Perina, Spencer (JoDee) Goracke, Joseph Peters; twelve great grandchildren: Josh, Gabi, Devin, Ellis, Carter, Reese, Cain, James, Drew, Addison, Rayne, Mahz; brother-in-law, Jim (Jo) Johnson; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Morris) Fleischman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Karen L. Olson, 61, of Lyons NE


Karen L. Olson, age 61, of Lyons, Nebraska passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Oakland Heights in Oakland, Nebraska.  Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons.  Burial will be in the Lyons Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday, from 5-7 p.m. with family receiving friends and Vigil Service at 7 p.m. all at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to service.  Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.  Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons in charge of arrangements.

Karen L. (Lilly) Olson was born to Charles and Betty (Iglar) Lilly on June 30, 1956.  She was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. She passed away on August 16, 2017, at Oakland Heights, from Posterior Cortical Atrophy, a form of Alzheimer’s.

Karen and her family lived in McDonald, PA, before moving to the family farm between Lyons and Decatur, Nebraska when she was two years old. She attended the Bacon Country School down the road. She attended Lyons High School and graduated from Reese and Sybil Beauty School in 1976.

On August 27, 1976, she was married to her high school sweetheart, Mike Olson. They lived in Oakland and Hastings before moving to Lyons where they spent most of their lives. Karen was a beautician and helped Mike by running the office at the alfalfa mill.

Karen was an active member of her church and community until the onset of her Alzheimer’s. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles; nephew, Joseph; great niece, Lena.

Survivors include her husband, Mike; children: Ryan (Marti) Olson of Arlington, NE, Erin (Travis) Raabe of Lyons, Andrew (Carrie) Olson of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren: Darren, Carter, and Katelyn; mother, Betty Lilly of Lyons; siblings: Jan (Don) Bray of Lyons, Lisa (Mike) Tranmer of Wahoo, NE, Michael (Sue) Lilly of Ceresco, NE; many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Helen Frangenberg Stoll of Colorado Springs CO Formerly of Lyons NE


Helen Stoll was born October 22, 1945 to Fred and Cecilia Frangenberg in Lyons, Nebraska. She attended Lyons Public Schools through the eighth grade. Helen attended Assumption Academy in Norfolk, graduating in 1964. After graduation she attended nursing school at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Omaha, NE, receiving her LPN, and continued working at St. Joseph’s until moving to Denver, CO. Helen worked at various hospitals and nursing homes in Denver and in the Fort Garland and Alamosa area until she retired.

Helen married Frank toll in Omaha January 27, 1973. One son, Mark, was born to this union.

Helen passed away July 8, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is survived by her husband Frank, of Fort Garland, CO, son Mark (Tina), 3 grandchildren, Omaha, sister Rosanna Frangenberg, Omaha, brother Bob (Ingrid) Frangenberg, Oakland, CA, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bill, and sisters Mary, Dorothy, Agnes and Catherine.

Edward R, Mundil, 74, of Hooper NE


Edward R. Mundil age 74, of Hooper passed away Wednesday August 9, 2017 at Dunklau Gardens.

The funeral mass will be 11am Saturday, August 12 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper.  Rev. Damien Wee will officiate.  Lunch will follow the service with the committal in the Clarkson National Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday at Ludvigsen’s Hooper Funeral Chapel with the family from 5pm to 8pm.  Visitation will continue for one hour at the church in Hooper.  Memorials are suggested to the Logan View Education Foundation.

Ed was born January 19, 1943 on a farm near Dodge, Nebraska to Jerry and Ida ‘Karel’ Mundil.  The family moved to a farm near Clarkson, Nebraska where he attended country school and graduated from Clarkson High School in 1961.  He received his Bachelor Degree from Wayne State College in 1965 and Masters Degree in 1971 from Kearney State College (now University of Nebraska at Kearney).  Ed taught in Aurora, Nebraska for 6 years then began his career at Logan View Public Schools in the fall of 1971 where he remained until he retired.  Ed and his wife Joan owned and operated Happy Acres Greenery near Uehling.

Ed started the Science Fair at Logan View, he taught advanced Biology for college credit.  He was involved in the Logan View Education Association and the Logan View Education Foundation.  He was baptized, had first communion, and confirmed all at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper.

Ed was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Nebraska Education Association, Hooper Commercial Club, Uehling Business Club, Uehling Lions Club, Uehling Famous Follies and Drama Association (UFFDA), Nebraska Florist Society, Omaha Magical Society and was an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska.  Ed taught Hunters Safety and he helped organize the ESU Science Fair.

Ed married Joan Sila on December 27, 1967 in Lyons, Nebraska
