Joyce E. Allison, 81, of Tekamah NE


Joyce E. Allison, age 81, of Tekamah, Nebraska passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah.  Burial will be in the Tekamah Cemetery, Tekamah.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Tekamah Fire and Rescue and Lied Tekamah Public Library. Funeral arrangements by Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah.

Joyce Elleen (Marr) Allison was born on July 18, 1936 in the Northern Arizona Township of rural Tekamah, Nebraska. She passed August 5, 2017 at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska.

Joyce grew up in rural Tekamah and was married on April 11, 1954 to Donald Ray Allison of Tekamah. They lived in Tekamah and raised their two children Dan and Angie. Joyce worked for the family business Allison Electric, at JC Penny and as a homemaker.

Joyce was insanely stubborn, witty, feisty and playful, had dimples for days and an infectious laugh. Joyce was a skilled bowler and loved spending her free time playing cards, listening to her records and devouring chocolate and books. Despite the fact that she had a brown thumb, she loved flowers, the outdoors, and observing the birds and naming their tunes. Her favorites were the cardinal and hummingbird.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents: Ellsworth Marr and Gertie (Ray) Marr; siblings: Phyllis (Marr) Loerch and Marvin Marr.

She is survived by her children: Dan (Calista) Allison of Tekamah and Angie (Noel) Petersen of Herman; brother, Terry Marr of Tekamah; Grandchildren: Kent (Sarah) Allison of Tekamah, Andy (Nicole) Allison of Castle Rock, CO, Adri Allison of Tekamah, Brittany Petersen of Omaha and Brandi (Bryan) Allison of Tekamah; Great-grandchildren: Morgan, Teagan, Olivia and Delaynie Allison; many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Margaret Johnson, 93, Formerly of Lyons NE


Margaret Ellen Johnson was born January 30, 1924 to Carl and Anne (Ruddy) Jensen in Lyons, Nebraska. She passed away July 29, 2017 at Neligh Care and Rehabilitation Center in Neligh, Nebraska, at the age of 93 years.

Margaret grew up on the family farm northeast of Lyons, attending rural elementary school. She graduated from Blackbird High School, a rural high school near her home, in 1941. She then attended college for one year at Wayne State College and one year at Midland Lutheran College, earning a teaching certificate. She taught elementary school, first at rural schools in Burt County, and later at Pender Public Schools.

On September 23, 1950 Margaret married Chester Johnson at Westside Methodist Church in rural Oakland, Nebraska. They made their home at the Johnson family farm in Cuming County. They were blessed with two children, Sheila and Richard.

Margaret was a homemaker, raising chickens and tending a large garden in addition to her flower gardens. After their children were grown, she worked as a substitute teacher in Cuming County rural schools. She also enjoyed being a member of an extension club and quilt guild.

After living on the farm for 51 years, Margaret and Chester moved to Lyons in 2001. They became members of the First Presbyterian Church. In 2008 Margaret moved to Neligh to reside in an assisted living facility. She moved to Neligh Care and Rehabilitation Center in 2011.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Chester in 2006.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Tom) Parks of Neligh; son, Richard (Linda) Johnson of Oakland; grandchildren, Aaron (Sara) Parks, Amber (Jordan) Paden, Christal (Chris) Witthuhn, Alexis Johnson; 6 great grandchildren.

Ed Hanna, 89, of Oakland NE


Ed Hanna “Grandpa Ed” alias…..Tommy Bishop lived life to the fullest. He was born in Table Rock, NE September 15, 1927 to Anna (Hubka) and Edd Hanna. He passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 in Lincoln, NE.

After graduating from Table Rock, he served in the occupational army in Japan using the GI Bill to get a degree in music education from Peru College. He married Betty Rademacher and on August 3 the two would have celebrated 67 years of marriage. He taught in Hamburg, IA and West Point, NE. Moving to Oakland, NE he became a State Farm agent until retiring. His love of music led him to leading “The Tommy Bishop Band” for over 60 years. He was always directing community and church choirs, musicals, State Fair Veterans’ Programs, and always organizing entertainment for various events. Community was important to him serving on so many committees, boards, clubs, too numerous to name. He was “Grandpa Ed” to anyone he met visiting, joking, and telling stories. To our family he was everything…….husband, father, Grandpa, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and son, Tom.

Celebrating his life are his wife, Betty; daughters, Deborah (Tim) Anderson, Teresa (Perry) Rogers; sons, Steve (Laurie) Hanna, Dan Hanna; daughter in law, Laurie Hanna; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

To all who knew him he would be asking you all to say Hip Hip Hurray for a life well lived.

Philip “Flip” E. Hetrick, 71, of Walthill NE


Philip “Flip” E. Hetrick, 71, of Walthill, NE passed away Monday, July 17, 2017 at an Omaha hospital. Funeral services will be Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill; Pastor Brion Tolzman will be officiating. The visitation will be Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill. The burial will be at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh- Smith Funeral Home in Pender.

Flip was born September 24, 1945 in Onawa, IA to Philip H. and Marjorie (Morse) Hetrick and baptized into the Methodist faith in Sioux City, IA in 1945. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School. Flip married the love of his life, Karen Swanson, on December 14, 1967 and made their home in Walthill. He worked at IBP for 31 years, and was part-time at Cooney Fertilizer. He was also a union member of local 222. Flip had a petting zoo for many years.

Flip enjoyed being outside fishing, swimming, and gardening. He also enjoyed gambling and watching westerns. Flip loved his animals, John Deere equipment and was an avid Husker and Buffalo Bills fan.

Flip is survived by his wife Karen Hetrick of Walthill, NE; sons, Jeff Bradley of Indianola, IA, Mike Bradley of Niceville, FL; daughters, Melissa (Tim) Ruge of Decatur, NE, Robin (Scott) Davis of Hubbard, NE, Jill (Tom) Ruge of Lake Park, IA; sisters, Janice (Bill) Sampson of Sioux City, IA, Janet Dowdy of Phoenix, AZ; brothers, Marc (Beth) Hetrick of Monument, CO, Greg (Joy) Hetrick of Rice, MN, Jack (Kim) Hetrick of Walthill, NE; 20 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Marjorie Hetrick and brother, Chuck Hetrick.

Earl Bucy, 90, of Tekamah NE


Earl Bucy, age 90, of Tekamah, Nebraska passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska. Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017, 10:30 am, at First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah. Burial will be in the Tekamah Cemetery, Tekamah, Nebraska.  Memorial visitation will be on Thursday, from 5-7 p.m. with family receiving friends. A Masonic Service will be at 7 p.m. all at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah. Clarence Earl “Chuck” Bucy, Jr. was born September 27, 1926 to Clarence and Inez (??) Bucy on the family farm near Decatur, Nebraska. Earl grew up in the Lake Quinnebaugh Township and attended a 2-room country school. He was a member of the school’s Glee Club and played the trombone. As a child Earl was stricken with polio and spent more than a year hospitalized in an iron lung. He graduated from Tekamah High School in 1946. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln before returning home to farm the land that was farmed by his father and grandfather. The family was honored with an AkSarBen Pioneer Farm Family Award in 1990, recognizing that the land has been in the Bucy family for more than 100 years.

Earl married Helen Burt Neary on August 29, 1948, in Decatur. They lived on the family farm, between Decatur and Tekamah, before moving to Tekamah after retirement in the 1980s. Earl enjoyed fishing with his friends. He and his wife enjoyed traveling across the country in their motor home and spending their winters in Arizona. He was proud to receive the Bronze Jordan Medal for being the oldest Master Mason of Tekamah Masonic Lodge No. 31. He was a founding member of the Tekamah Rawhide Nobles, the miniature car club that drove in numerous local parades and was also a member of The Tangier Shrine Scottish & Yorkshire Rites. He also served on the Burt-Washington County Drainage Board, the Burt County Museum Board and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah.

Earl and Helen’s greatest joy was watching their grandchildren grow up and attending their school, 4-H and sports activities.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents; siblings, John, Howard, Dean, Doris and Leo; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Dahl; step-grandson, Joshua Jacobsen.

He is survived by his four sons, Mike Bucy and friend Peg of Tekamah, Larry (Christine Jacobsen-Bucy) Bucy of Decatur, Gary (Joan) Bucy of Tekamah, Jerry (Mary) Bucy of Beatrice, NE; seven grandchildren, Tim Bucy, Gregg (Marlyn Marincas-Bucy) Bucy, Tessa (Nate) Darling, Alexis (Patrick) Linehan, Harrison (Alyssa) Bucy, Justine Bucy and Josh Bucy; 2 step-grandchildren, Sandra (Tom) Engel and Johnathan Jacobsen; 15 great grandchildren, Tomi Jo, Karlie, Chase and Kaden Dahl, Sage, Aiden, Carson and Addison Darling, Annie, Mitch, Jack & Lucas Linehan, Aspen Bucy, Alex and Gregorie -Marincas Bucy; 4 great great grandchildren; siblings, Eldon (LaDonna) Bucy and Larie (Dave) Way.

Robert “Curt” Ray, 62, of Tekamah NE


Robert “Curt” Ray, age 62, of Tekamah, Nebraska passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at his home in Tekamah.  Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 6th, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah.  Burial will be in the Tekamah Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 5th, from 4 until 7 p.m. with family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah.  A Masonic Service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Tekamah-Herman Ball Association or to the Tekamah Fire & Rescue.  Arrangements by Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah.

Robert “Curt” Ray was born to Bob and Iris (Jackson) Ray on April 13, 1955 in Oakland, Nebraska. He passed away July 2, 2017, at his home in Tekamah, Nebraska after a long battle with ALS, at the age of 62 years.  Curt grew up on a farm outside of the Bertha Community. He attended a one-room school house until 6th grade. He graduated from Tekamah-Herman High School in 1973. After high school, he attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a bachelor of science in business administration.

On June 12, 1976, he married his college sweetheart, Kathy Blanc. They spent their married life in Tekamah, where he started Curt Ray Insurance Agency. He was an active independent insurance agent for 25 years.

He enjoyed flying, boating, gardening, golfing, and coaching. He served the community of Tekamah in many capacities including:  Masonic Lodge #31, Tekamah Airport Authority, Tekamah-Herman Ball Association, the Voice of Tiger High, founding board member of Northridge Country Club, coaching 29 teams of Tekamah-Herman softball, and many more organizations.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clara and Nemon Ray and R.C. and Lula Jackson; father-in-law, Buck Blanc.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Blanc) Ray; daughters, Janet (Dan) Becic of Wichita, KS, Diane (Nik) Beninato of Fremont, NE, Holly (Kevin) Loftis of Craig, NE; grandchildren, Parke Loftis, Blake Beninato, Lane Loftis, Julia Beninato, Emily Loftis, James Becic, Mason Beninato and Clara Becic;  parents, Bob and Iris Ray; brothers, Greg (Deanna) and Dick (Diane); mother-in-law, Dee Blanc; many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
