Marilyn Jean (Dietz) Bures, age 69, of Oakland, Nebraska passed away May 1, 2017 at Oakland Heights in Oakland, Nebraska.  Funeral services will be on Monday, May 8, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons.  Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Howells, Nebraska.  Visitation will be held Sunday, May 7th, from 5 until 7 p.m. with family receiving friends.  Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. all at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons.  Visitation will continue on Monday, at the church one hour prior to service time.  Memorials are suggested tot he family for later designation. Marilyn Jean (Dietz) Bures was born to Edith Faye (Moran) and Erwin Dietz October 6, 1947, in Columbus, Nebraska. Marilyn grew up in Creston, Nebraska, where she graduated from Creston High School in 1965.

On September 17, 1966, Marilyn was married to Kenneth Bures in Howells, Nebraska. In 1977, they moved to Oakland, where she helped run the family business, KC Parts & Repair. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons, Nebraska. She loved playing bridge, having her family together, seeing the country on motorcycle trips, and taking weekend getaways with her daughters and daughters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Christine Elliott; and son-in-law, Thomas Elliott.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Bures of Oakland; two sons, Carl (Tammy) of Oakland, and Andrew (Jenny) of Arthur, NE; two daughters, Carin (Gordon) McGee of Arlington, NE, and Melissa (Shannon) Thomsen of Lincoln, NE; brother, Gerald Dietz of Oologah, OK; twelve grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

James “Jim” Frances Frahm, 83, of Oakland NE


James “Jim” Frances Frahm age 83, of Oakland, Nebraska passed away April 26, 2017 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.  Memorial graveside services and burial will be on Monday, May 8, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at the Oakland Cemetery.  There is no visitation.  Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.  Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland in charge of arrangements.

Jim was born December 10, 1933 to Hugo and Mary (Strehle) Frahm in West Point, Nebraska. He attended school in West Point and Lyons; he graduated from Lyons High School in 1950. On April 1, 1956, Jim married Norma VonEssen at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hooper. After their marriage, they lived on Norma’s family farm outside Uehling until 1961, when they moved to Oakland.

In early 1961, Jim and Skinny Larson started Frahm/Larson Transfer; they transported livestock together through most of the 60s. In the late 60s, Jim went on his own and started Oakland Livestock Express, and then in 1971, Jim & Norma purchased a farm and moved to rural Oakland. Jim served as Mayor of Oakland from 1968-1971. After a move to Denver, CO in the early 80s, Jim drove a truck for Northwest Transport and got his pilot’s license in 1982. He enjoyed flying, but the small planes were not fun for Norma. In the late 80s he switched to golf course maintenance, which was a good fit for him, since he enjoyed golfing. He and Norma traveled to different states over the next few years as he worked at Pebble Beach Golf Links, The Boulders Golf Club, Cherry Hills Country Club and Spokane Country Club. In 1999 they settled in Bella Vista, Arkansas where they lived until 2006, when they moved to Lincoln. After Norma’s death in 2012, Jim returned to Oakland, where he lived until 2016, when he was diagnosed with Dementia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; brother, Charles Frahm.

He is survived by his son, Jeff (Sandy) Frahm of Oakland; daughters, Teresa (Paul) DesLaurier of Camarillo, CA, Michelle (Kyle) Bellamy of Lincoln; sister, Rosemary Kai of Oakland; eight grandchildren, Jenny (Tim) Addante, Kirk Frahm, Cally (John) Tejkl, Andrew DesLaurier, Erin (Sean) Regan, Kameron Heyen, Makenzy Bellamy, Kyson Bellamy; four great grandchildren.

Alan L. Smith, 66, of Sioux City, IA died at his home on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in Sioux City, IA.  A memorial service for Alan will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Concord, NE; Pastor William Bertrand will be officiating.  The visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at the church.  Inurnment with military honors will be at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Alan was born October 26, 1950 in Wayne, NE to Desmond and Martha (Koch) Smith. He graduated from Allen High School in 1969. In 1970, Alan was drafted into the United States Marines and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.  Alan married Sharleen Schuppan on July 6, 1973 in Elk Point, SD. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He also enjoyed going to coffee and gardening his veggies and fruits. Most of all, Alan loved his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

Alan is survived by his wife, Sharleen Smith of Sioux City, IA; son, Terry (Stephanie) Smith of Sioux City, IA; brothers, Desmond Smith, Jr. of Scribner, NE, Terry (Gayle) Smith of Colchester, VT, Dean (Marlene) Smith of Allen, NE, Bob Smith of Beatrice, NE, Doug (Susan) Smith of Martinsburg, NE, Lin (Mary Lou) Smith of Ponca, NE, Randy (Tonia) Smith of Delta Junction, AK, Dennis (Theresa) Smith of Yankton, SD, sisters; Chris (Bill) Micek of Columbus, NE, June (Bob) Grosvenor of Newcastle, NE, Shellee (Jeff) Heinemeyer of Yankton; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Max Elliot Morgan, 84, of Walthill NE


Max Elliot Morgan was born October 10, 1932 to Floyd “Jack” and Eva (Newill) Morgan on a farm near Decatur, Nebraska. He went home, from his residence in rural Walthill, Nebraska on April 21, 2017, at the age of 84 years.

Max attended McCauley School and graduated from Macy Public School with honors. Max served in the Army during the Korean Conflict in Europe. He was united in blissful marriage to Peggy Ann Butts on April 21, 1956 in the Dutch Reform Church in beautiful Macy, Nebraska.

Max did road construction and then farmed in the Decatur and Walthill areas. He enjoyed playing baseball, football, hunting, his dogs and horses. He also loved spending time talking, laughing and joking with his family and friends.

He will join in paradise, his parents; wife, Peggy; two brothers, Jim and Rex; two sisters, Dorothy and Iva.

He is tearfully survived by his sons, Rick Morgan of Walthill, Kenneth (Brylle) Morgan of Oberlin, KS; brothers, Ralph (Ima) Morgan of Nevada, IA, Jackie (Betty) Morgan of Onawa, IA, Jary (Jean) Morgan of Omaha, NE; sisters, Verna Vogt of Livermore, CA, Jean Thomas of Oakland, NE, Elva Barnett of Pocahontas, IA.

Jessica Tate (Hempel) Anderson, 43, of Ainsworth NE


Jessica Tate (Hempel) Anderson, age 43 of Ainsworth, Nebraska, passed away April 20, 2017, at Faith Regional Health Services in

Norfolk, Nebraska. She was born April 3, 1974, in Ainsworth, Nebraska, to Richard and Anita Hempel.

Jessica grew up with an older sister (Julie) and younger brother (Jared) in Long Pine, Nebraska, where she attended grade school

and junior high. She had a very active small town childhood, hiking, tubing the creek, playing basketball, and hosting the famous

Hempel slumber parties. She attended Ainsworth High School graduating with the class of 1993. While in high school, Jessica was

active in FHA and choir. She had the voice of an angel and loved to sing. As an adult one of her favorite things to do was sing

karaoke. Throughout her life she sang for many events and enjoyed gathering around the piano with family for Christmas carols.

On March 23, 2002, Jessica married Kevin Anderson. They lived in Bancroft, Nebraska, and were blessed with two children, Seth Tate

and Alex Anita. In 2008, Jessica returned to Ainsworth with the children. She kept busy with friends, family, school activities

and work. Most recently she worked at the D&B Cafe in Ainsworth. Her coworkers were an extended family for her.

Jessica loved fishing and camping her whole life. Her family has many wonderful memories of time spent at the lake with the whole

family, Grandma and Grandad included. She also enjoyed going out to bingo with her friends. She was a collector of many things

including, cobalt blue glass, tigers, and kitties.

Jessica was preceded in death by her grandparents Philip and Marie Hempel and Perry and Phyllis Campbell. She is survived by

children Seth and Alex Anderson of Ainsworth; parents Richard and Anita Hempel of Ainsworth; sister Julie (Todd) Taylor of Long

Pine; brother Jared Hempel of Ainsworth; friend Derrik Grupe and family of Ainsworth; 2 nieces, 1 great niece and numerous aunts,

uncles and cousins.
