Delores R. Carlson, 87 years of Oakland, Nebraska, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016, at Oakland Heights in Oakland.

Visitation will be held Mon., Sept. 26th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held Tues. at the church one hour prior to the service.

The Funeral Service will be held Tues., Sept. 27th at 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

Burial is in the Oakland Cemetery.

Memorials suggested to the family for designation at a later time.

Erwin J. Hilliard, 89, of Hooper NE


Erwin J. Hilliard, age 89, of Hooper, Nebraska passed September 19, 2016 at the Hooper Care Center.

Services will be 10am Saturday September 24 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper.  The Rev. Damien Wee will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Hooper Cemetery with Military Honors.  Visitation will be Friday from 3pm to 8pm with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen’s Hooper Funeral Chapel.   Memorials may be given to the Hooper Care Center at 400 E. Birchwood, Hooper, NE  68031 or Kindred Hospice at 847 E. 23rd Street, Fremont, NE  68025.

He was born February 10, 1927 on a farm outside of Neligh, NE to Frank and Magdalena Haake Hilliard. He grew up and attended school in Newman Grove, NE.  He enlisted in the US Navy on February 29, 1944 and was honorably discharged May 11, 1946.  Erwin returned to Nebraska as a farm hand.  He married Marjorie Joerger on April 4, 1949 in Yankton, SD and worked on various farms in Madison, Wisner, Stanton and Randolph, NE.

In 1959 he moved his family to Howells, NE and worked for Risch Implement for 3 years. In 1962 he and his family moved to Hooper, NE where he worked for Kassmeier Implement until he retired in 1989. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling to see his family in Oregon, Washington, Kansas, Texas, and Colorado. Gardening, yard work and reading the “Good Book” were his favorite pastimes.

Survivors include his sister, Marian Little of Port Angeles, WA, ex-wife Marjorie Hilliard of Hooper, his children Judy Hall and late husband Ron of Spring Branch, TX, Jeanette Cordes and husband Phil of Scribner, NE, Earl Hilliard and his wife Lori of Fremont, NE, Ernie Hilliard and wife Cherrie of Orange City, IA, Mary Knott and husband Rick of Berthoud, CO, Lyle Hilliard of Prague, NE, Larry Hilliard of North Bend, NE, and Rose Hilliard and husband Stacy Glasgow of Longmont, CO, 20 Grandchildren and 34 Great-Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by son, James Hilliard, parents, Magdalena and Frank Hilliard, brothers, Ray, Kermit, Russ, Milton and Eldon Hilliard and great-granddaughter Trinity Dart.

James “Jack” F. Buhr, Sr., 69, of Pender NE


James “Jack” F. Buhr, Sr., 69, of Pender, NE passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at his home in Pender after a long battle with ALS. The memorial service will be Friday, September 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender; Chaplain Rosalind Woods will be officiating. The burial will be at a later date. The memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Jack was born July 5, 1947 in Omaha, NE to Herschel and Margret (Spaudling) Buhr. He lived in south Omaha until he joined the U.S. Army in July of 1966. Jack married Kathy Morgan on November 6, 1975, to this marriage brought two sons and a daughter.

After three years maintaining tanks in the Army, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 19 years as an aircraft electrician. During this time, he served all over the world including tours in German, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand, where he supported the Vietnam War. While stationed at Offutt Air Air Force Base for seven years, he flew on the E4, Airborne Command Post during President Jimmy Carter’s presidency. While his seven years at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota, he designed and built a piece of equipment to mount in a KC 135 that saved a child’s life. The box was to support medical evacuations. During his Air Force career, he reached the rank of Master Sergeant, and towards the end was Assistant Superintendent of the Ellsworth tanker specialist flight and supervised over 150 people. After retiring from the Air Force in 1988, he worked in construction and maintenance and as a corrections officer for Thurston County.

Jack’s favorite past time was fast pitch softball. He was a pitcher in Class A in the Omaha Softball Association. He loved traveling, camping and fishing with his family in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Jack is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, James, Jr. (Leah) Buhr of Huntsville, AL, Nicole (Richard) Tangeman of Pender, NE, P.J. (Emily) Buhr of Omaha, NE; sister, Marlena Minshall of Council Bluffs, IA; sister-in-law, Sandy Buhr of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Jean Morgan of Decatur, NE, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sherman and Lloyd Buhr; brother-in-law, James Minshall; and parents-in-law, Jim and Evelyn Morgan.

Pamela A. (George) Hedges, 62, of Lyons NE


Pamela A. (George) Hedges was born to Nicholas and Tressie (Roscoe) George on September 10, 1954 in Omaha, Nebraska. She passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at her home in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 62 years.

Pam grew up in Lyons and graduated from Lyons High School. Pam was married to Bill Hedges on September 9, 1984. She took pleasure in reading, baking and gardening.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She worked as a custodian, caregiver and a florist.She was heavily involved with the local farmers’ market as well.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Tressie George.

She is survived by her children, Hayley Jones and James Hedges both of Lyons; granddaughter, Jaiden Jones of Lyons; brothers, Doug (Barb) George, Greg (Betty) George all of Fremont, NE; sister, Cynthia George of Lyons.

A Memorial Service will be held Fri., Sept. 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lyons.

There will not be a visitation or a burial.

Charlotte (Pauley) Hansen,60, of Tekamah NE


Charlotte (Pauley) Hansen was born November 9, 1955 to Charles and Cleo (Carroll) Pauley in Carroll, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at CHI Health Immanuel in Omaha, Nebraska.

Charlotte loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending evenings on her beloved front porch. She relished time with her friends and family. Charlotte was an extremely hard worker, showing great care for both her patients and colleagues, at the Golden Living Center of Tekamah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leonard Pauley; grandson, Brayden Tracy.

She is survived by her husband, Kent Hansen; children: Kristen Hansen, Tracy Airhart, Jennie Strong, Nick Airhart; sister, Jennie Belz; brothers, Michael Pauley, Mark Pauley.

She will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held Thurs., Sept. 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah NE.
