James Puckett, 94, of Pender NE


James “Jim” Robert Puckett, 94, of Pender, NE passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the United Church of Pender in Pender, NE; with Pastor Steve Breazier officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2016 at the United Church of Pender. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Jim was born March 20, 1922 in Allen, NE to Ira and Laura Elsie(Roberts) Puckett. He attended and graduated from Allen Public School in 1940. On September 14, 1952, James married Betty Janssen at the Allen United Methodist Church in Allen, NE. Jm farmed east of Allen from 1940 to 1961 on the family farm. In 1961, the couple moved to Pender where they owned and operated Puckett Florist from 1961 to 1985 and Puckett Photos from 1974 to 1993. Jim and Betty were loyal supporter of the Pender Community.

Jim loved wood working, carving numerous miniature bats, working in the yard, snow blowing and walking around Pender. Jim opened PoPo’s following his early morning walks for several years. Jim loved classic cars and spent many hours reconditioning the 1959 Chevy that he owned for many years. Jim was a good listener and was very devoted to his wife and their family. They worked together all their married lives and were successful because Jim was willing to do anything Betty asked him to… except learn to square dance.

Jim is survived by his wife, Betty Puckett of Pender, NE; daughters, Amy (David) Worth of Omaha, NE, and Sherry (Mike) Anderson of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Jeff (Kristal) Cooper, Jessica (Dustin) Karas, Michael (Kaylee) Stanek and Tim Stanek; and 7 great grandchildren.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Foster and Anna Janssen; brothers, Glen, Cyril, Neil, Everett, Ollie and Jesse; sisters, Zella Ziemer, Zeta Swanson and Elzora Puckett; son-in-law, Mark Stanek; granddaughter, Jill Stanek; and brother-in-law, Ron Witter.

Shirley Erickson, 83, of Oakland NE


Shirley Ann Erickson was born April 3, 1933 to David and Martha (Swenson) Landholm on the family farm southwest of Oakland, Nebraska. She was the youngest of eleven children. She passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland, at the age of 83.

Shirley graduated from Oakland High School in 1950 and married Leonard Earl Erickson May 26, 1951. Born to this union were three children; Cynthia Colleen, Barry Allen and Kathleen Kay.

Gardening, raising African Violets, making jewelry and working jigsaw puzzles were activities she enjoyed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law; eight brothers; one sister; one granddaughter.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Leonard; three children, Cynthia (Richard) Schinstock of Fremont, NE, Barry Erickson and special friend Adelia of Longmont, CO, Kathy Carson of Fremont; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren, one sister.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Sun., April 17th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland. The family will be receiving friends during this time

A Private Family Memorial service will be held.

Burial is in the Oakland Cemetery.

Norma Potadle, 88


Norma Agatha Potadle was born on October 20, 1927 to Harold and Agatha (Kohlmeier) Wolf in Danville, Illinois. She passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Nebraska Skilled Nursing Facility in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 88 years.

She graduated from Lyons High School in 1945, and attended Dana College through 1971, becoming a teacher. In 1997, she was baptized at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha. She was confirmed at Christ the King Church in Omaha on May 31, 2000. Norma also enjoyed playing the piano for many years, sharing her gift through piano lessons and playing in the church. Some of her favorite hymns were “Lift High the Cross”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Beneath the Cross of Jesus”.

She is survived by her two sons, Paul and Mark.

A Graveside Service will be held Thurs., April 14th at 11:00 a.m. at the Lyons Cemetery.

Helen K. Heineman, 101, of Pender, NE, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender. Funeral services will be Monday, April 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender; Pastor Miles Ruch will be officiating. The visitation will be Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Pender is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Katherine Vosteen was born on March 30, 1915 in rural Cuming County, Nebraska, the oldest of three children to Dick and Mary (Vogt) Vosteen. Helen was united in marriage to Harvey Heineman at the home of her parents on January 31, 1937. Together they farmed north of Pender until May 1976 when they moved into Pender. On December 28, 1978, Harvey died in a tractor accident. She was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Women’s Circle, Alter Guild, mailing, quilting and Sunday School. Helen also liked to travel, and had visited all fifty states. Most of all she enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her loving grandchildren.

Grateful for sharing her life are her three children; Gary (Mary) Heineman of Sloan, IA; Leann (Dennis) Jeppson of Wahoo, NE and Don Heineman and special friend Rae Brown of Pender. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Delta Vosteen of Pender; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her baby daughter, Karen Kay in November 1954; husband, Harvey in December 28, 1978; father, Dick Vosteen in November 1981; mother, Mary (Vogt) Vosteen in June 1985; brothers, Alvin Vosteen in August 2001 and Walter Vosteen in December 2004; brothers-in-law Rudy Wagner in June 1991 and James Kleffner in August 2009; sisters-in-law Betty Vosteen in April 1996, Irene Wagner in August 2006 and Esther Kleffner in November 2011; granddaughter, Marsha Heineman Hanly in May 2012; and daughter-in-law, Sharon (Simonsen) Heineman in September 2014.

The Funeral Service is Tues., April 12th at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah. Visitation will also be held at the church on hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be held at the cemetery. There will be a luncheon from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at the VFW Post 2503 in Omaha.

Robert James “Skeeter” Deemer, 69, of Tekamah NE


Robert James “Skeeter” Deemer was born to Arthur and Eunice (Waddell) Deemer on April 17, 1946 in Leon, IA. He passed away April 7, 2016 at Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, NE.

Robert’s family moved to Tekamah when he was very young. He graduated from Tekamah High School in 1964.

On February 13, 1966 he was united in marriage to Betty Appleton in Dakota City, NE. They lived most of their lives in Tekamah. He started working on a farm and also was a Production Foreman at the Rocky Quarry for several years. He then retired (for a short while) before returning to work as a truck driver at Beed Transportation until the time of his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Eunice Deemer; sister, Beth Wells; two brothers, Raymond and Michael Deemer.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Tekamah; two daughters, Brenda McCluskey of Tekamah and special friend, Paul Gochenour, Melisa (Karl) Bergman of Tekamah; three sons, James Deemer and special friend, Laura Garcia of Tekamah, David (Tammy) Deemer of Oakland, Matt (Sarah) Deemer of Tekamah; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanette Hittle of Decatur, NE, Joan (Gary) Sheets of Fremont, NE; two brothers, Kenneth “Max” (Deb) Deemer of Homer, NE, and Steven (Janet) Deemer of Blair, NE.

Memorial Visitation will be on Tues., April 12th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah. The family will be receiving friends during visitation.
