Erna Marie Louise (Henschke) Bottger, 90, of Wayne, Nebraska passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, NE. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield, NE; with Pastor Terry Makelin officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Wakefield City Cemetery in Wakefield, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE.

Erna was born March 10, 1925 to Adolph and Dora (Frevert) Henschke in rural Wakefield, NE. On March 3, 1945 she married Erwin Bottger at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wakefield. She sold Avon products and worked as a cook at the Thurston School. Erna enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, painting, cleaning, writing and sending letters, and talking on the phone. She also enjoyed cooking and traveling to see other parts of the country. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Erna is survived by her grandchildren, Lori (Ron) Obermeyer of Sioux Falls, SD and their children Kody and Kyra Obermeyer, Gary Anderson of Lincoln, NE, Mindy (Richard) Staveteig of Thompson, ND, and their children Christopher and Lincoln Staveteig, Kassi (Tyler) Bayless of Seattle, WA; brother, Paul (Arlene) Henschke of Wayne, NE; son-in-law, Jerry Anderson of Wakefield, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

Erna is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Erwin Bottger, and daughter, Edith Anderson.

Jeri L. (Nielsen) Kallesen age 52, of Fremont
Died Wednesday February 17, 2016 at her home.

Jeri was born July 15, 1963 to Larry and Joleen ‘Sorensen’ Nielsen in Fremont. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1981. She graduated from Dana College in Blair in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in accounting. On March 12, 1988 Jeri married Dan Kallesen in Fremont and they had one child Danielle. They moved to Arkansas and later divorced. Jeri moved back to Fremont, and pursued her career in technology focusing in EDI. She worked for Millard Refrigerated Services for 16 years as an EDI coordinator, living in Kansas City and Chicago before relocating to back to Fremont. In 2007 she worked for Pamida’s corporate office as an EDI coordinator for 6 years until leaving because of her illness.

Jeri was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was a volunteer for several groups at the church. She was an avid Husker fan; you could find her at a tailgate every Saturday morning. She also enjoyed all kinds of sports.

Jeri was preceded in death by her grandparents, 2 paternal aunts and cousin Nancy.

Jeri’s life will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stephanie Tollefson officiating. A lunch will follow the service with the burial to follow in the Blair Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3pm to 8pm with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church for youth programs.

Philip W. McVeigh, 81 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Community in Blair, NE.

Visitation will be held on Sun., Feb. 21st from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah. Family will also be receiving friends during this time. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to service.

The Funeral Service will be held Mon., Feb. 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah.

Burial, with military honors, is in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Memorials suggested to the family for designation at a later time.

William N. Smith, 90, of Tekamah NE


William N. Smith was born to Cecil and Bessie (Powers) Smith September 4, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away February 15, 2015, at home, after a short illness.

Bill graduated from Omaha Technical High School in 1943.

On May 27, 1944 Bill was married to Bonnie Olson in Stuttgart, Arkansas. They lived most of their lives in Omaha, where he had a brake and clutch wholesale business. In 1996 they moved to Tekamah, Nebraska, where Bill lived until his death.

Bill served in World War II and was a member of the Omaha VFW and American Legion. He was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah until his failing health prevented his participation.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; seven sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Bonnie; son, Bill (Carol) Smith of Sandy, OR; daughters, Barb (Bill) Patterson of Tekamah, Patti (Steve) Fitch of Elkhorn, NE; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.

The Memorial Service will be held on Thurs., Feb. 18th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah or the Tekamah Fire and Rescue.

Jane R. Kelly, of Uehling, Nebraska, was born June 23, 1942 to Jack and Eyvonne (Spears) Wederquist in Bell, California. She passed away February 13, 2016 at Premier Estates in Fremont, Nebraska at the age of 73.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her daughters, Renee (Troy) Duke Metcalf of Forest Lake, MN, Sue Kelly of Kansas City, MO, Jenara Eichelberger of Kansas City, MO; son, Paul (Kim) Kelly, Jr. of Oakland, IA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; special friends, Tom and Phyllis Meyer of Uehling.
