Jo Anne Johnson, 81, of Lyons NE


Jo Anne Johnson was born August 9, 1936 on a farm North of Divide Center, Nebraska, the fourth of six children born to Clarence and May (Peterson) Drummond. She passed away October 4, 2017, at her home in Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 81 years.

Jo grew up on the family farm and attended Divide Center School. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1953.

On April 17, 1953 Jo and James Johnson were united in marriage. They were blessed with six children; Michael, Mylet, Milan, Jill, Jeffrey and Jerry. Jo and Jim owned the Emerson Tri-County Press from 1967 to 1975. She also worked as a Nurse Aide at Emerson Nursing Home. They moved to Oakland, Nebraska in 1975 and Jo started working at Oakland Heights Nursing Home as an Aide; in 1978 she began her career as Bookkeeper, retiring in May of 2013.

Jo was dedicated to her family. She loved to cook and bake. She dearly loved all her family and friends, and treasured their times together.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons, Nebraska where she served as Deacon and was a PW member. She was baptized and confirmed at the Divide Center Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Magel (Norwood) Rohloff.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Mike (Kathy) Johnson, Mylet (Jeff) Kutchera, Milan (Pam) Johnson, Jill (Brad) Brink, Jeff (Suzanne) Johnson, Jerry Johnson; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Leon) Bruns, LaVonne “Bonnie” Rassmussen, Gladys Pipal; brother, Jon (Ronda) Drummond; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Joel “Joe” Bernard Penny, 65, of Decatur NE


Joel “Joe” Bernard Penny was born to Forrest and Lucille (Gatewood) Penny on March 15, 1952 in Oakland, Nebraska. He passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017 in Pierre, South Dakota.

Joe grew up on a farm south of Decatur, Nebraska. He worked for the railroad for a couple of years before he started farming. At the time of his death he was raising cattle and farming land around Burt County, including the original Penny family farm.

Joe loved to ride his motorcycle, hunt, and ride horses. He was an animated storyteller and would stop to visit friends spontaneously. No matter where Joe went or who he met, they wouldn’t forget meeting him. He was one of a kind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Colt; brother-in-law, Bob Mussack.

Joe is survived by his wife, Brenda (Weston) of Decatur, daughters: Jennifer Penny of Decatur, Molly (David) Dickinson of Milford, NE, Fawn Barger of Scottsdale, AZ, Tyler Rambeau of Flandreau, SD; sons: Sage and Hawk Penny of Decatur; grandchildren: Brady, Jacqulyn and Colt Barger, Hunter, Cash and Penny Dickinson, and Jacob Fisherman; brother, Phil Penny of Decatur; sisters: Cindy Mussack of Omaha, NE, Sandy (Greg) Brummond of Craig, NE; step-sisters: Mary (Scott) Christ, Jean Wiersman; step-brother, Dan (Heidi) Mussack; his first wife Deborah Connealy; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and thousands of friends!

Visitation is Monday, September 4th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah, NE.

Funeral services will be held at the Decatur Firehall on Tuesday, September 5th at 10:30 a.m.

Burial is in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur Ne.

Michael “Mic” Clark, 68, of Louisville KY, Formerly of Tekamah NE


Michael “Mic” Clark, age 68, of Louisville, Kentucky formerly of Tekamah, Nebraska passed away Friday, August 18, 2017, in Louisville, Kentucky.  Memorial service with full Military Honors provided by Tekamah area veterans will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the Chatt Center in Tekamah.

Michael was born January 29, 1948 in Blair, Nebraska, the son of Herbert & Eva (Magill) Clark.  He attended Arizona District #3 school and graduated from Tekamah High School.

After graduation Mic joined the Army, spending his service time in Germany and Vietnam.  He then attended Wayne State College where he met his future wife, Gloria Heskens.  Mic & Gloria were married in Tekamah on August 7, 1971.

Mic’s main life’s work was in architectural facades. He was very much involved in the design and construction of the Mutual of Omaha dome.   Formglas Company of San Jose, California was very impressed with his work on the dome. The company hired him as general manager and moved him to California.  Later Mic and two friends purchased the company.  The company name was changed to ‘Intex’ and Mic was the CEO.

Mic’s main past times were: restoration of old cars (which he loved); old TV programs and cartoons; a good cold beer & football.  His main love, above all, was being with his grandchildren & attending their activities.

Mic is survived by his mother, Eva Clark McCluskey of Tekamah; wife, Gloria, of Louisville, KY, daughter, Kimberly (Clark) Spier of Omaha; son, Brian Clark and wife, Yuki, of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Max & Alexis Spier, Noah, Barak, Grace & Titus Clark, and J.T. Whaley; brothers, Herbert Clark and wife, Pat, of Tekamah; John Clark and wife, Cathy, of Yakima, Washington; Kent McCluskey of Tekamah; sister, Karen Dickinson and husband, Dave, of Lincoln; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mic was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Clark; stepfather, Marion McCluskey; daughter, Jenny Whaley; granddaughter, Jasmine Whaley.

Kyle Jon Heideman, 32, of Duluth MN


Kyle Jon Heideman was born to Jon and Regina (Beschorner) Heideman on March 7, 1985, in Fremont, Nebraska. He passed away August 24, 2017, in Duluth, Minnesota, at the age of 32 years.

Kyle graduated from Lyons-Decatur Northeast High School in 2003. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and GIS from South Dakota State University in 2007. After graduation, he was employed in Walker, Minnesota. He later moved to Duluth, Minnesota where he was the GIS manager for Krech, Ojard & Associates.

Kyle was a gifted storyteller, an avid outdoorsman, and a world-class fishing guide.
He is survived by his parents, Jon and Regina; sister, Kara; brother, Kurt and wife Sarah; nephews, Zach and Max; niece, Maggie; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arnold and Evelyn Heideman, Frederick and Grace Beschorner.

A Private Family Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons, Nebraska, with burial at Lyons Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the family for future designation.

Kyle Heideman

Katherine Ann Peterson, 60, of Oakland NE


Katherine Ann Peterson was born to Bruce Arnold and Marlene Ann (Gibbs) Peterson on June 16, 1957 in Oakland, Nebraska. She passed away August 20, 2017 at CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 60 years.

Kathy attended country school and graduated from Oakland-Craig High School in 1975. She lived in Lincoln, Nebraska and Minnesota before returning to Oakland in 2010. She opened Itty Bitty Store in Oakland and Unique and Unusual Finds in West Point, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bruce Peterson.

She is survived by her mother, Marlene Peterson; brothers, Bruce Alan of West Point, Terry of Foristell, MO; nieces, Lindzey and Cheyenne, nephew, Dalton.

A private family service will be held.

Burial is in the Craig Cemetery.
