Marian J. (Johnson) Schultz, age 90, of the Fremont/Hooper/Uehling area passed away early Saturday, March 7th, at the Hooper Care Center. The funeral service will be 2 PM Wednesday,, March 11th, at Elim Lutheran Church of Swaburg with Rev. Judith Johnson. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont from 2 to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to her church or to the donor’s choice. Marian was born July 28, 1924 at Uehling to Elmer and Marie (Johnson) Lantefield. She grew up on the farm near Uehling and graduated from Uehling High School.
On June 15, 1941, Marian was married to Lawrence Johnson in the Elim Lutheran Church of Swaburg. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska until her husband entered the military service. Upon his return home, they moved to a farm in the Craig/Uehling area. In 1980, the couple moved to Tekamah.
Her husband Lawrence, died in 1985 and Marian moved into Fremont in 1986. On December 21, 1988, she was married to Garlan Schultz and they made their home in Fremont.
In her working years, Marian had been a bookkeeper for the Craig Telephone Company for 11 years. In Fremont, she had been a secretary for Mike Gulliatt for 2 years.
Marian was a lifelong member of Elim Lutheran Church of Swaburg where she had been baptized and confirmed. There she taught Sunday School and Bible School, and was a Luther League Sponsor. She was a former member of the Women’s Society of Uehling, a member of the Uehling Auxiliary, and a member of the Wo-He-Lo Club. She had also been a Red Cross volunteer.

Ronald and wife Susie of Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Patricia Jo Pickell was born August 30, 1975 to Bill and Danna (Corbin) Pickell in Blair, Nebraska. She passed away March 1, 2015, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, after a very unexpected fight against influenza B and pneumonia, at the age of 39 years.
Patricia grew up , and lived in Tekamah, Nebraska most of her life. She ran a daycare for many years, and then worked construction until she passed.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Charles Corbin and grandparents, Melvin and Jean Pickell.
She is survived by her four children, Jessalyn, Tristan, Wyatt, Dawson, all of Tekamah; step son, Austin Metzger, of Oklahoma; parents, Bill and Danna (Corbin) Pickell; sisters, Peggy (Jesse) Dorau, Brooke (Guy) Pensyl; eight nieces and nephews, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at 10:30 am, at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah.
VISITATION: Tuesday 5-8 p.m., with family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah.
BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery, Tekamah, NE.

Vern P. McAfee, 91, of Emerson, NE, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson, NE. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson, NE; Pastor Miles Ruch is officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson, NE. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland. Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Emerson, NE is in charge of arrangements.
Vern was born May 1, 1923 to Philo and Allie (Tucker) McAfee in rural Waterbury, NE. He attended Emerson High School. In 1943, Vern entered the United States Army. He married Dorothy Farrow, to this union, five children were born. Vern married Marie Farrow in 1969. After Marie’s passing, Vern married Ann Steiner in November of 1995 in Homer, NE.
Vern was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed working with his hands while welding toys, weathervanes and windmills. He was able to fix anything and make it work again. Vern was a farmer for many years and worked for an implement dealer. He enjoyed reading, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Vern is survived by his son, Vernon LeRoy McAfee of AZ; step son, Gerald Sommer of IL; daughters, Karen Ray Druhn of Bloomindale, IL, Evon Jo (Keith) Buck of Tuscon, AZ; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Dorothy, Marie, Ann; son, Roger Lynn McAfee; daughter, Charlotte Irene Pierce; sisters, Julia Woods, Hannah Dittes, Ester Kosht; and brothers Merle McAfee and Ray McAfee.

Lorine (Lydick) Bush, was born to Samuel and Selma (Jacobson) Lydick on July 17, 1919 in Bertha, Nebraska. She passed away on February 27, 2015 at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE after a brief illness, at the age of 95 years. She was a long-time resident of Oakland, NE, most recently residing at Oakland Heights in the assisted living facility.
Lorine was an avid quilter and long-time member of the Cottonwood Quilters Guild, until she succumbed to macular degeneration in the last few years. She loved her garden, even up until last summer, when she won prizes at the Burt County Fair for her rhubarb and her phlox. She was especially proud of her large asparagus patch.
Lorine was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Bush and son, Jeffrey Bush.
Lorine is survived by her son, Bradley Bush, of Omaha; daughter, Beverly Bush Bruning, of Omaha; granddaughter, Lauren Bruning, of Topeka, KS; grandson, Christian (Laurie) Riedemann, of Omaha; great grandchildren. Zach, Gabe, Evie, and Ellie Riedmann.
