Janice J. Schroeder, age 86, of Lincoln, Nebraska, formerly of both Lyons and Oakland, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 at The Legacy in Lincoln. Celebration of Life will be on Friday, April 27, 2018, 10:30 am, at the First United Methodist Church in Oakland with burial in the Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, Nebraska. There is no visitation. Janice Joan Schroeder was born June 30, 1931 west of Oakland, Nebraska to Ellory and Gladys (Johnson) Rennerfeldt. She passed away April 21, 2018, with her family by her side, at The Legacy in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 86.
Janice started school in rural Craig, where the family had moved. Before the year of 1936 was over, the bad farming years of the 30s caused the family to move into Oakland. Janice continued her education in town, graduating in 1948. She worked in cafes during the summers and after school. She started when she was 11 years old, earning 10 cents an hour.
After graduation, she worked at the local Farmers and Merchants National Bank until she married Howard E. Anderson in 1950. They had three children – Rhonda, Roxie and Jeffrey. They had several happy years in the farm east of Lyons. They became members of the Presbyterian Church at Divide Center, where Janice served several years as Treasurer. Their children attended Divide Center School. She was also a “stay at home” Mom and how she loved that!
She went back to work at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Oakland after the kids had graduated from Lyons High School, and worked for 20 years, retiring as Assistant Cashier. She married Jack Schroeder in 1985 and moved to Oakland in 1986.
Janice moved to The Legacy in Lincoln in February 15, 2015. She loved being able to spend more time with her family. She made new friends, played lots of bingo and enjoyed attending activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Jack Schroeder and Howard E. Anderson; granddaughter, Amy Anderson; sisters, Shirley Smith, Beverly Lemke Broekemeier, Yvonne Michelsen Magill; brother, Harley Rennerfeldt.
She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Gary) Thies and Roxie Anderson (Clement “Kim” Soucie) all of Lincoln; son, Jeffrey (Denise) Anderson of Lyons; grandchildren, Melanie Anderson of Lincoln, Tyler (Jessica) Thies of Gretna, NE, Tatum (Tom) Casart of Lincoln; seven great grandchildren; special niece, Carla Hart; aunt, Nona Newman; many more wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.
