Dakota Riecken earned 3rd team All-East Husker Conference honors in boy’s basketball this season. He was a major part of the Cougar team which finished with an 11-11 record and tied for 4th in the Elkhorn Division of the EHC.
“It is a really significant accomplishment as there were only 18 kids who made these teams out of a total of 16 teams (12 of them were Class C schools,.” pointed out Head Boys’ Basketball Coach Derek Lahm.
Dakota Riecken earned honors on the 3rd Team All-East East Husker Conference team for the 2013-2014 season after leading the Lyons-Decatur Cougars in scoring at 12.8 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game. He finished the season 13th in the entire state (Classes A through D2) in field goal (FG%) percentage at 61%.
Head coach Lahm said of Dakota: “Dakota is well-deserving of this award as he was very coachable and one of the hardest workers in the school. He spent a lot of time improving his jump shot with the assistance of Coach Steve Hosch, and it really paid off this year as he was able to get his shot off against much taller players.” Lahm also added “We will really miss Dakota and our entire senior class of boys. They were a tight knit group of guys who set the tone for our younger kids. Their example should really inspire and drive our younger kids in the weight room and in the upcoming off-season workouts.”
Dakota is the son of Bill and Lori Riecken.
