Oakland’s city crew has been busy moving dirt in the park in preparation for the new bathroom building that will be built in the near future. The Friends of Oakland Foundation contributed $20,000 to the construction of the building and there is also $30,000 in the city’s budget going towards the building. This will be a great addition to the park, providing a large bathroom/shower facility for the public, and especially for those camping in the park. Six to seven inches of rain fell in Oakland last week with two more falling overnight, leaving standing water throughout the park and fairgrounds. The creek in the park was also very high, which carries the water from the west side of town to the creek in the park. All photos credit of Denise Gilliland, Editor and Chief, Kat Country Hub.

Rain came in downpours Monday and Tuesday, with rain gauges showing 4 1/2 to 5 inches of rain in Oakland. The south side of the Oakland Park was left with a great deal of water standing as a result of two rainy days, unusual for August. Very strong winds came through Oakland late last evening, taking down branches and trees around town. Between an inch to an inch and a half of rain fell during the storm. Chain saws can be heard around town, cutting up the branches and trees to haul to the dump. It was definitely a strong spring storm.
