Dorothy E. Shamburg, 92 years, of Tekamah, Nebraska, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska.

Memorial Service is Wed., Feb. 10th at 10:30 .m. at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah, NE. Visitation is one hour prior to the Memorial Service at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah, NE

John “Jack” Palmer, 87, of Tekamah NE


John “Jack” Burton Palmer, 87, of Tekamah, passed away, Sunday, January 24th 2016, at Blair Memorial Hospital, with his devoted wife at his side.

Jack Palmer was born February 22nd, 1928, in Tekamah to Lloyd and Alvera (Loftman) Palmer. Jack grew up on his family’s farm and attended rural grade school in Arizona Township. He graduated from Tekamah High School in 1945, attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington Missouri and in 1949 graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. While at UNL he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He later enlisted in the Marine Corp. On March 12, 1950 Jack married Donna May Blankenship in Tekamah. He was a farmer and hog producer with his brother Jerry and received the Nebraska Pioneer Award for 100 years of continuous family farm ownership. A licensed pilot and passionate fisherman, Jack loved to visit with everyone. Jack always loved telling a good joke and will be remembered for a twinkle in his eye.

Jack was a member of the masonic lodge, and a lifelong, faithful and active member of the United Methodist Church in Tekamah. He was a proud and devoted uncle. The community, his friends and family will miss him greatly.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Alvera (Loftman) Palmer and his brother Jerry.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna; sister-in-laws: Jerris Palmer, Claudine Hansen, Gloria Cameron (Brian), Jan Stillman; brother–in-laws: Jim Blankenship (Joan) and Teddy Blankenship (Laura); nieces: Jayne Palmer, Mindy Major (Barry), Sarah Frye (Dave), and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held on Sat., Jan. 30th at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah NE.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial is in the Tekamah Cemetery.

George L. Camron, 56, of Tekamah NE


George L. Camron was born to Alta Carman and in Owensboro, Kentucky on October 5, 1959. He was the second oldest of seven children. His family moved to Nebraska when George was 14 years old. He passed away surrounded by loved ones Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska, after a quick and aggressive fight with pancreatic cancer, at the age of 56.

George married Carol Marie Carlson of Oakland, Nebraska January 11, 1982. Together they had three children, one of whom passed during infancy.

George was a man of many talents. He had several hobbies, but his favorites were fishing and being amongst friends. His newest joy was his grandson Maddox.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carol; son, Nathan; brother, Norman; sister, Theanna.

Survivors include his son, Mike (Elise) Camron of Tekamah; daughter, Tara (Steve) Camron of Blair, NE; grandson, Maddox Camron of Tekamah; mother, Alta Townsend; father, Gary Townsend of Tekamah; brother, Robert (Kelly) Camron of Omaha, NE; sister, Linda (Joe) Sergio of Sherman, TX; sister, Udith (Art) Johnson of Craig, NE; brother, Leroy Townsend of Tekamah; several nieces and nephews.

A Memoral Service will be held Fri., Jan. 29th at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith Family Baptist Church in Tekamah NE.

Betty Lou Bowden, 92, of Lincoln NE Formerly of Tekamah NE


Betty Lou (Hart) Bowden was born to Roy Lewis and Alma Marie (Hansen) Hart on September 23, 1923 on a farm near Coleridge (Dixon County) Nebraska. She passed away on January 23, 2016 at The Legacy Retirement Community in Lincoln Nebraska.

She attended 1st grade in Dixon County and grades 2 through 8 at Pleasant Hill School in the country near Herman Nebraska. She walked to and from school every day singing all the way. Neighbors would call her mom and tell her that Betty had passed their house. The teacher rode a horse and would sometimes take Betty part of the way home. She attended Tekamah High School grades 9 through 12 graduating with the class of 1941. She lived with a family in town during the week and went home to the farm on the weekends.

During her freshman year of high school, she met William Lester Bowden and they were high school sweethearts. She attended secretarial school in Omaha after graduation. They were married on June 25, 1941 in Shiloh, North Carolina while Bill was stationed in Elizabeth City, North Carolina at the US Coast Guard Air Station.

They returned to Tekamah in 1947 when Bill was discharged from the service. She worked for various insurance companies in the state of Nebraska following Bill’s transfers with NPPD. After retirement in 1981, they purchased a farm near Adams, Nebraska so they could be close to their grandchildren and watch them grow up.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Herman Order of Eastern Star for 60+ years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William R. Hart of Herman.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Bowden of Tekamah, Sharon (Bill) Hitzeman of Lincoln; grandchildren, Ryon (Maggie) Hitzeman of Salina Kansas, Annie (Shawn) Othmer of Tecumseh, Nebraska; great grandchildren, Austin and Olivia Hitzeman, Emma, Sydnie, and Shawna Othmer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Thurs., Jan. 28th at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah NE.

Burial is in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Steven Scott Shamburg, 65, of Tekamah NE


Steven Scott Shamburg was born to Norman and Patricia (Sackett) Shamburg January 17, 1951 in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away January 22, 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha at the age of 65 years.

Steve graduated from Omaha North High School in 1969.

On June 1, 1974, Steve and Jo Jen (King) were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Steven Scott Jr, Scott Steven and Andrea Lea.

Early in Steve’s life, he drove freight truck for Tekamah Transfer. On November 6, 1979 he began work at Shamburg Auto Supply and continued until one week before is 36th year. He truly valued the relationships that were formed from the shop. He had a true love of antique Ford cars and pick-ups, which he owned and restored. He enjoyed Nascar racing, especially the Kansas City Speedway, and many other sports. One of those sports being bowling, not only did he love the game but also his teammates and the competitors.

While work took a lot of his time, his true passion was his family and helping others.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Scott Jr.; father, Norman; mother and father-in-law, Leroy and Eva King.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Jen of Tekamah; son, Scott (Sara) Shamburg of Omaha; daughter, Andrea Shamburg (OJ) of Tekamah; mother, Patricia of Tekamah; brother, Dennis of Tekamah; granddaughters, Hope and Paige Lydick of Tekamah; grandson, Briggs Owen Shamburg of Omaha; sister-in-law, Vickie Kuhlmann of Tekamah; nephews, Samuel Shamburg and family of Great Falls, MT; nieces, Elly (Troy) Shamburg of Boise, ID, Abigail (Jacob) Shamburg of Omaha, Maggie Kuhlmann-Capek and husband of Galveston, TX, and Rebecca Kuhlmann of Omaha.

The Memorial Service will be held on Thurs., Jan. 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the Tekamah City Auditorium in Tekamah NE.

Burial will be held at a later date in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Judith E. Anderson, 75, of Tekamah NE


Judith E. Anderson died January 16, 2016 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Judith Eleanor (Bruce) Anderson was born to Alvin John “A. J.” and Eleanor M. (Farnam) Bruce in Tekamah, Nebraska on November 23, 1940. She was born, raised, and lived nearly her entire adult life in Tekamah. After graduating from Tekamah High School in 1958, she graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1962, with a BS in Education.

Judy was a kindergarten teacher in Sunnyvale, California from 1961-1962 and at the Havelock School in Lincoln, Nebraska 1962-1965.

Judy was united in marriage to Ralph M. Anderson, Jr. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah on August 18, 1963.

Judy was a lifetime and faithful member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she served as work group co chairman for over 30 years and as secretary of the Lutheran Church Council. She served as President of PEO Chapter DC and the Tekamah Library Board. She was a long time volunteer of the American Cancer Society and long time member of the Tekamah Book Club. She was honored as an Aksarben Countess in 1961. Judy loved to read, play bridge, boat on the Missouri River, and spend time in Okoboji, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Ralph M. “Mick” Anderson, Jr of Tekamah; son Michael Thomas Anderson and his wife Brenda of Las Vegas, Nevada; and daughter Amy Louise Wenstrom and her husband Shawn and children Julia Louise and Thomas John of Farmington, Minnesota.

The Memorial Service will be Tues., Jan. 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanual Lutheran Church in Tekamah NE. Burial will be at a later date in the Tekamah Cemetery.
