Iola was born September 17, 1920 in Primrose, Nebraska to Wesley and Maude ‘Pryer’ Stigile. She grew up there until moving to Hooper in 1935. Iola graduated from Hooper High School in 1937. She went to Nebraska Wesleyan and the Bryan School of Nursing, graduating in 1942 with RN and BSN degrees. She was married to William C. Hargens on December 20, 1942 at Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper. After their marriage she was head of Pediatric Nursing in Norfolk, Virginia while Bill was stationed there during WWII. The couple’s daughter Joan was born at Chelsea Naval Hospital near Boston. The family returned to Hooper where Bill worked at the bank and their son Joel was born. During the time Iola was raising her family, she also worked as a home health nurse and as the school nurse at Logan View Schools for 15 years.

Iola was a very active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper and loved God very much, read the bible and found comfort and peace in faithful prayer. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter in Hooper as well as the American Legion Auxiliary and several bridge clubs. She loved to read and collect antiques, but her favorite thing was spending time with her family especially her grand and great grandchildren.

Iola was preceded in death by her husband Bill in December of 1997.

The funeral will be 10:30am Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hooper Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church and Hooper Care Center. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3pm to 8pm with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen’s Hooper Funeral Chapel.

Alberta M. Voss, 90, of Fremont NE


Alverta M. Voss, 90, of Fremont, NE, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016, at Providence Place in Fremont.

Alverta was born February 25, 1925, in Hooper, NE, to Gustav and Olga (Peters) Tienken. She grew up on a farm southwest of Hooper and graduated from Scribner High School in 1942. Alverta married Elra Lantefield on February 2. 1947 in Hooper. They lived in Hooper till 1953. Elra passed away February 22, 1953. Alverta moved to Fremont and married Wallace Voss on October 14, 1962 in Hooper. In 1962, they moved to Arlington, NE. Wallace passed away April 9, 1988 and Alverta moved back to Fremont.

Alverta was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. She was a member of the Smile Club and enjoyed spending time playing cards in various card clubs.

She is survived by her nephews, Roger (Judy) Von Seggern of Scribner, NE, and Stanley Von Seggern of Fremont; great nephews, Martin (Paula) Von Seggern of Scribner, Scott (Angie) Von Seggern of Fremont; great nieces, Becky (James) Lynn of Uehling, NE, Barbara Von Seggern of Scribner, and Tracie (Russ) Quinn of Herman, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Elra Lantefield and Wallace Voss; sister Almira (Raymond) Von Seggern.

The funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper, NE. The Rev Joel Schroeder will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5 PM until 8PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Hooper Cemetery in Hooper.

Shirley E. Wagner, age 94, of Uehling, Nebraska passed away Monday December 21, 2015 at the Hooper Care Center.  Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hooper, NE.  The Rev. Shirley Elaine Stenvers was born on March 2, 1921 to Mauritz and Mathilda ‘Claasen’ Stenvers on their farm northwest of Uehling. She married Clarence Wagner on June 22, 1941. They lived on a farm on the Scribner-Herman road and raised three children there, Lynne, Dean and Carol. Her husband preceded her in death on October 29, 1975. After his death Shirley moved to Uehling in 1979, where she resided until her death. She was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Hooper on September 2, 1934. She enjoyed going to the Confirmation jubilees every year. She went to Wayne State College after she graduated from Uehling High School on May 20, 1938. She received her teaching certificate to teach in rural schools. When she married, she was a housewife until 1956 when she went back to teaching in rural schools in Dodge County. She attended Midland College night classes and summer classes and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

She also was involved in volunteer work at Redeemer Lutheran Church which included Sunday school teacher, Altar Guild and library committee. She also was involved in reading to residents at the Hooper Care Center, Blood Mobile in Uehling, Election Board for many years, active in the American Legion Auxiliary in which she held several positions, Dodge county Feeders Auxiliary President, Chairman of the Nebraska Cattle Women’s Association, Uehling Senior Citizen Center and entertainment committee and 4-H leader. Her hobbies included collecting Fiestaware, recipe book collection and trying new recipes, Antiques and refinishing old furniture. She also loved to read even up to a couple of days before her death.

Besides her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, sister Eileen Behrendsen and brother Dennis Stenvers.

Shirley is survived by her children: Lynne (Butch) Vaughn, Dean (Kay) Wagner, and Carol Christensen. She is survived by 6 grandchildren, Mary Jackson, Christopher (Alisa) Vaughn, Louis Vaughn, Natalie (Tracey) Kozak, Kara (Chaunce) King, and Casey Christensen. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren.

Peg J. Moeller, age 54, of Hooper, Nebraska passed away Friday, December 25, 2015, at her home.  Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. The Rev. Peg was born October 4, 1961 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Marvin and Elsie ‘Sienknecht’ Carlson. She grew up on a farm near Overton, Nebraska. She graduated from Overton High School in 1979 then attended Midland Lutheran College for two years. After college she worked in Fremont. She married Sid Moeller On April 2, 1988. They lived on farms in the Hooper area and started their family. Peg worked at various places but most recently she was employed at Duane Svec Advertising in Hooper.

Marvin Henry Meier, 89, of Wayne NE


Marvin Henry Meier, 89, of Wayne, Nebraska passed away Monday, March 9, 2015 at Careage Campus of Care in Wayne, NE. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, NE; with Pastor Jeanne Madsen officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE; visitation will resume Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the family present. Burial with military honors will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne, NE. Memorials may be given to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE.

Marvin was born March 4, 1926 in Wayne County to Arthur and Emma (Holst) Meier. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wakefield. Marvin attended District #33 Country School in Wayne County. On June 24, 1948 Marvin married Delores Hammer at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayne. He served in the Army from 1952 until 1954; serving in Japan.

Marvin was a lifelong farmer in Wayne County, farming South of Wayne and Wakefield until moving North of Wayne in 1966. Marvin semi-retired from faming when he moved to Wayne in 1997. Marvin continued to help with the farm and livestock until having knee surgery in 2006. In May 2011, Marvin moved to the Wayne Care Center.

Marvin was a member of the American Legion and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne, NE. He enjoyed numerous summer vacations in Missouri to visit his relatives.

Marvin is survived by his daughter, Debra (Jim) Johnson of Wayne, NE; grandsons, Brian (Leslie) Johnson of Wayne, NE and Daniel (Amy) Johnson of Lincoln, NE; great grandchildren, Brett Johnson, Tyler Johnson and Brooklyn Johnson; sister Mardelle Brudigan of Wayne, NE; special niece, Nancy (Bob) Sutton of Wayne, NE and numerous other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Delores in 1970; parents; sister, Verna Mae (Harry) Bargholz and brother-in-law Donald Brudigan.

Glenn H. Blomendahl, 81, of Hooper, Nebraska passed away February 10, 2015, at Nye Point in Fremont, Nebraska.  Celebration of Glenn’s life will be Friday, 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper.  The Rev. Glenn was born on April 30, 1933 to J. Herbert and Myra (Hilbers) Blomendahl in Burt county Nebraska. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church Hooper and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Hooper. He graduated from Hooper High School in 1950 and graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in January of 1959 with a Bachelors in Agricultural Economics. He married Sue Simmons on the 6th of December, 1956 at the First Methodist Church in Hooper. He was a United States Naval Aviator from 1953 to 1957 and served in the Naval Reserves from 1957 to 1967. He farmed west of Hooper near the Scribner Air Base from 1959 until his retirement. He was also a rural mail carrier.

Glenn served his church as treasurer, council member, Sunday school teacher, usher and choir member. He was on District 48 school board, chairman of the Logan View reorganizational committee and served as board president the 1st eight years of the Logan View School District. He was also one of the original members of the Fremont Hospital Foundation Board; a 50 year member of the Hooper Legion Post 18; served on the South Omaha Production Credit Association Board and was a founding member of the Elkhorn Valley Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sue; children Gayle (Mark) Gillett of Papillion, Barb (Tod) Hilgenkamp of Solon, IA; Glenn (Gay) Blomendahl of Herman, and Shari (Todd) Smith of Herman. Grandchildren Mark (Samantha) Gillett of Okinawa, Japan, Bryan Gillett and Joseph Gillett of Papillion, Blaine Hilgenkamp and Hannah Hilgenkamp of Solon, IA; Cole (Candace) Blomendahl of Columbus, Shane Blomendahl of Omaha, Luke (Amy) Blomendahl of Waverly, Noah Blomendahl of Lincoln, Katelyn Smith and Ryan Smith of Herman. Willis C. Bopp, age77, of Hooper, Nebraska passed away Thursday January 29, 201, at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont, Nebraska.  Funeral service will be 10:30am Monday, February 2nd, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Joel Schroeder officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Hooper Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Sunday at the Redeemer Lutheran Church from 2 to 6pm with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4pm. Willis was born July 29, 1937 on a farm near the Scribner Air Base to Clarence and Elnora ‘Thomsen’ Bopp. He was raised in rural Hooper. Willis was baptized on September 12, 1937 and confirmed on May 13, 1951 both at Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from Hooper High School in 1956. After high school Willis joined the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Hancock (CV/CVA 19) from 1956 to 1958. After his military service he returned to the area. He married Janice Thernes on June 28, 1959 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. After his marriage, he farmed in the Maple Township area and continued to farm his whole life, moving into Hooper in the spring of 2014.

Willis was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving the church in many ways including the Redeemer Church Council and the Redeemer Foundation Board. Willis was involved in many community activities. He served on the Maple Township Board, District 88 School Board, Hooper Co-op Board of Directors, Hooper Medical Clinic Board, Logan View Foundation Board and as the area President of the AAL (now Thrivent Financial). He is a lifetime member of the Angus Association and Lifetime Member of the FFA Alumni Association. Any one who needed something fixed brought it to him and he loved fixing things in his shop.
