Karen Hetrick, 67, of Walthill NE


Karen Sue (Swanson) Hetrick, 67, of Walthill, Nebraska passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 surrounded by her family at her home.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill; with Pastor Brion Tolzman officiating.  Visitation will be held Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill.  Burial will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.

Karen Sue Swanson was born on July 20, 1951 to Ray E. and Dorla A. (Warnock) Swanson in Walthill, NE.  Karen was baptized on October 13, 1957 and confirmed on May 6, 1981 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill.  She attended grade school and high school in South Sioux City, NE.  On December 14, 1967 Karen married Philip E. “Flip” Hetrick in South Sioux City.  They moved to Walthill making this their new home.  Karen owned and operated a daycare for over twenty years in Walthill, before retiring and watching after her own grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Karen enjoyed gardening, watching birds fly around her gardens and watching the Huskers every chance she had.  She was an amazing cook and could make just about anything from scratch.  Karen loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren great grandchildren.

Karen is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Tim) Ruge of Decatur, NE, Robin (Scott) Davis of Hubbard, NE, Jill (Tom) Ruge of Lake Park, IA; sisters, Kris (Chris) Hittle of Nickerson, NE, Kami (James) Pierce of Walthill, NE; brother, Jarrod Swanson of Wayne, NE; grandchildren, Nikki (Trevor) Mullanix and their children McKenna, Kallie and Mason, Noel Ruge (fiancé Sean Minton) and their children Brody and Jax, Hannah Davis, Hunter Davis, Tyler Ruge, Tanna Ruge and Taryn Ruge.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Philip “Flip” Hetrick; brother, Stephen Swanson.

Richard H. “Dick” Middendorf, 94, of Lincoln NE


Richard H. “Dick” Middendorf, 94, of Lincoln, died on December 22, 2016, at Gateway Vista Senior Living in Lincoln.

 

Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 28, from 4-8 pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be Thursday, Dec. 29, 10:30 am, at Christ Lutheran Church, Lincoln, with the Rev. Dr. Luke Schnake officiating. Burial will follow at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lincoln Lutheran Schools or Concordia University, Nebraska. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home of Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

 

Dick was born August 29, 1922, in Bruning, NE, to Henry and Katie (Duis) Middendorf. He graduated from Bruning High School, and served in the army in the final years of World War II, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. Dick was united in marriage to Della Mae (Lautenschlager) Middendorf on January 2, 1945. To this union four children were born. The couple lived in Lincoln, and then in Lyons, NE, where Dick worked for the Soil Conservation Service, and then as a rural mail carrier with the USPS, serving in that capacity for 30 years until his retirement. He was also a school bus driver, and a member of various local organizations including the summer baseball program, the American Legion and VFW, and the Lyons industrial development committee. Dick’s gift of writing led to many special feature articles in the Sioux City Journal, and the Omaha World Herald. Following retirement in 1986, the couple moved back to Lincoln, where Dick continued working part-time as a courier for Union Bank & Trust for another 24 years. While in Lyons, Dick served his congregation of St. John Lutheran as Sunday School superintendent and elder. At Trinity Lutheran, Lincoln, he volunteered as a greeter and was also a member of various boards and Bible study groups. His most recent church membership has been with Christ Lutheran in Lincoln.

 

Survivors of the immediate family include his four children and spouses: Joy (Rick) Golden; Lyle (Nancy) Middendorf; Larry (Penny) Middendorf; and Mark (Julie) Middendorf, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Della Mae; his siblings & their spouses: Ella (Kenneth) Stubbs, Lenore (Boyd) Biggs, Carl (Merle) Middendorf, and Delma (Leon) Bruning.

Marcella Lucille (Novak) Fuchser, 86, of Walthill NE


Marcella Lucille (Novak) Fuchser, 86, of Walthill, NE, passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 from heart complications at the Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, NE; Pastor Brion Tolzman will be officiating. The visitation will be Friday, January 1, 2016 at the Trinity Lutheran Church from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Marcella was born January 21, 1929 in Rosalie, NE to Ferd and Adella (Fabry) Novak. She graduated from Rosalie High School in 1946. She graduated from Wayne Teachers College and taught country school north of Rosalie. On January 16, 1947, she was united in marriage to Wilbur Fuchser, the couple had six children. Marcella was a lifelong resident of Walthill where she was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was involved in every aspect of farm life, and helped where she was needed. Marcella was known around the area for her cakes for any occasion. Marcella was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and loved spending time with her family.

Marcella is survived by her husband, Wilbur Fuchser of Walthill, NE; five sons, Steve (Ann) Fuscher of Denver, CO, Terry Lee Fuchser of Chattanooga. TN, Duane (Jeanne) Fuchser of Porter, TX, Larry (Pam) Fuscher of Oceanside, CA, and Tom Fuchser of Walthill, NE, Ron (Sandy) Bruno of Chattanooga, TN; brother, Le Roy Novak; sisters, Lillian Radtke and Frances Dorau; 13 grandchildren; and 28 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Edwin Lee, Richard, Louis, Lester, and Gary; three sisters, Helen, Dorothy, Jennie, and one daughter, Sandy Fuchser Bruno.

Nellie A. Karlin, 88, of Fremont NE


Nellie A. Karlin, 88, of Fremont
died Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Nye Legacy in Fremont.

Nellie was born February 7, 1927 to Tom and Marie (Maw) Maslonka. She grew up around the Decatur/Macy area and graduated from Macy High School. After moving to Fremont, she worked at Hormel’s for several years. Nellie married Dwayne Karlin on January 16, 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. She volunteered in many areas of the church and community. Dwayne passed away in 2002.

Nellie is survived by daughter – Julie (Kent) Bang, grandsons Nick and Jarrod Bang, all of Omaha; brother Ed L. Maslonka of Lyons, sister Marylin (Charles) Richardson of Onawa, Iowa; sisters-in-law Ellen Karlin of Fremont and Shirley Gregerson of Omaha; many nieces and nephews.

Nellie was preceded in death, in addition to her husband Dwayne, by three brothers, Elton, Willard (Red) and Howard Maslonka; brothers-in-law, Norman, Eldon, and Herman Karlin, Doug Gregerson; sister-in-law, Evelyn Maslonka.

The funeral service will be 2 PM Wednesday (Dec. 30, 2015) at Trinity Lutheran Church. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, with the family present, will be Tuesday (Dec. 29th) from 6 to 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.

John was born on July 15, 1972 in Pender, NE, the son of LeRoy and Charmaine (Fuller) Lahmann. He graduated from Walthill High School in 1991. After graduation he worked for Cooney Fertilizer and as a Rural Mail Carrier for the Post Office. John enjoyed playing cards with his friends, hunting, fishing and watching Nebraska Football. He was a member of the Rural Carrier Union and Trinity Lutheran Church. What John enjoyed most in his life were his children Aliayeh and Jayden. They were his pride and joy.

 

He is survived by his daughter Aliayeh and son Jayden of Dakota City, NE, his mother Charmaine Lahmann of Walthill, NE, sisters Virginia Lahmann Kiviranta of Omaha, NE, Teressa Lahmann of Walthill, NE, half sisters Kim Chlupacek of Dewitt, NE and Wendy Peterson of Rosalie, NE. John is also survived by a niece, three nephews, three great nephews and two great nieces.

 

John was preceded in death by his father LeRoy and his grandparents A. John and Naomi Fuller and August Lahmann, Hazel Lahmann Schultz and step grandfather Carl Schultz.
