Earlyne Fayann (Frey) Tomlinson, 79, of Emerson, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE; with Pastor Gretchen Ritola and Vicar Rebecca Truland officiating.

Private family burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home.

Peter O. Schmidt. age 81, of Oakland, Nebraska passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.  Funeral services will be  held Monday, February 1, 2016, at 11 a.m. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland with Rev. Mark Eldal officiating.  Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.  Visitation is on Sunday from 4-8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service at the church.  Memorials are suggested the  Golden Oaks Center in Oakland.  Arrangements by Pelan Funeral Services in Oakland.

Peter was born December 1, 1934 in Oakland, Nebraska to Peter Carl and Ruth Marie (Schlichting) Schmidt. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Lyons, Nebraska. He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. He attended country school at Bertha and District 43. He also attended Oakland High School.

On January 30, 1954, Pete married Lois Jean Sorensen at the First English Lutheran Church in Russell, Minnesota. They made their home on the Schmidt family farm in rural Oakland where Pete farmed and worked at the Phillips 66 Station in Oakland and served with the Army National Guard in Fremont, Nebraska. In 1966 they moved to town and he started a corn shelling, custom combining, and trucking business. He trucked locally and over the road until he retired to care for Lois. After Lois passed, he continued doing seasonal trucking until his passing.

Pete enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed his grandchildren and took pride in their accomplishments no matter how big or small. He enjoyed playing cards, spending time at the Golden Oaks Senior Center, and attending community activities.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; father, Peter; mother and stepfather, Ruth and Joe Gunkel; grandson, Benjamin Schmidt.

Survivors include; sons, Randy (Mary) Schmidt of Cedar Falls, IA, Timothy (Rosa) Schmidt of Oakland; daughter Brenda (Kent) Andersen of Oakland; five grandchildren, Aleah Unwin of Omaha, Samuel Schmidt of Oakland, Kaleb (Luryn) Andersen of Oakland, Maxwell (Paige) Andersen of St. George KS, William Andersen of Oakland; three great grandchildren, Jacob Unwin, Olivia Unwin, Emersen Andersen all of Oakland; brothers, Klemens Schmidt of Austin TX, Paul (Alice) Schmidt of Cabot AR; sister, Joellen (John) Stoner of Marion IN; many nieces and nephews. He also held dear Mark and Jodi Peterson, and their children Lane, Johnna, and Kara.

Robert Erwin Miller, 74, of Hubbard, Nebraska passed away January 28, 2016 surrounded by his family at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE; Pastor Gretchen Ritola and Vicar Rebecca Truland will be officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present starting at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016 at St. Luke Lutheran Church with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Robert was born on June 29, 1941 in Emerson, NE to Otto and Ruth (Jones) Miller. Robert attended and graduated from Emerson High School in 1959. After, graduation Robert married Sara Keuck at Hope Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE on June 25, 1960. To this union the family had four children. Robert farmed until his retirement in 1994. After retirement, he worked at Emerson Manufacturing until 2006. He enjoyed wood working, taking care of his garden, flowers and mowing his yard, which he took great pride in doing so. Robert loved traveling and going to his grandchildren’s events.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sara Miller of Hubbard, NE; children, Warren (Sue) Miller of Allen, NE, Deb (Leon) Steecker of Emerson, NE, Brian Miller of Wakefield, NE, Mike (Tiffany) of Story City, IA; grandchildren, Nick (Kayla) Miller of Wakefield, NE, Cody Miller of Riverside, MO, Jared (Amanda) Miller of Wakefield, NE, Eric and Melissa Steecker of Emerson, NE, Alyssa Miller of Story City, IA, Sierra Miller of Story City, IA; great grandson, Sawyer Miller; brother, Wayne (Cindy) Miller of Hubbard, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

Died Thursday January 28, 2016
at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner

Joyce was born January 29, 1940 in Tekamah to Merlin and Annie ‘Smith’ Robinson. She grew up in Tekamah and graduated from Tekamah High School in 1958. She moved to Omaha and worked. She later married and moved to North Carolina before returning to Tekamah to take care of her mother. She attended Bahner College of Hairstyling and raised her family. She then moved to Fremont and worked as a care giver. Her passion was people and mission work. She served missions in Arizona, Utah, Wisconsin and Chicago. Joyce was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fremont.

Joyce was preceded in death by a son Matthew, her parents, sisters and brothers.

The funeral will be 10am Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1160 N. Garden City Rd.). Bishop Seth Chappell will officiate. Burial will be in the Tekamah Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2pm to 6pm with the family receiving friends from 2pm to 4pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. Memorials will be determined later.

Jeannette Elaine (Cooper) Kubik, 74, of Emerson, NE, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 surrounded by her family at her home in Emerson. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson; Pastor Gretchen Ritola will officiate. Jeannette was born August 21, 1941 in Iowa City, IA to David and Guyla (South) Cooper. She grew up on the family farm, and graduated from high school in Smithland, IA in 1959. Jeannette married Donald Kubik on June 3, 1968 in Dakota City, NE. Jeannette’s first job was working for Aalfs, a blue jean manufacturing company. She was also the first female school bus driver for the Emerson school system. She was employed form 1967 until 2004 at IBP. After her retirement she drove the van for Heritage of Emerson.

Jeannette was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society, Good Neighbor Club, Women’s ELCA, and the International Cockshutt Club. When she wasn’t helping others, Jeannette enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch, bowling and listening to polka music. Horses and roosters were two of Jeannette’s favorite animals and she had a collection of roosters. God was the center of her life and it showed as she spent time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Kubik of Emerson, NE; children, Kirk (Grace) Kubik of Louisville, NE, Kristi (Dale) Gaither of South Sioux City, NE, Kraig Kubik of Emerson, NE,; sister, JoAnn Polly (Bob Gotch) of Smithland, IA; brother, Louis (Nisla) Cooper of Panama City, Panama; grandchildren, Eric, Phillip, Ashley, Andrew, Grant, Gabriel, Destiny, and Kraig, Jr. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Kincaid, Korbin, Alice, Kolten, Ariel, Taylor, Nolan, Kaden, Cecelia and Olivia.

Jeannette is preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Klark; infant sister, Donna Kay Cooper.

John “Jack” Palmer, 87, of Tekamah NE


John “Jack” Burton Palmer, 87, of Tekamah, passed away, Sunday, January 24th 2016, at Blair Memorial Hospital, with his devoted wife at his side.

Jack Palmer was born February 22nd, 1928, in Tekamah to Lloyd and Alvera (Loftman) Palmer. Jack grew up on his family’s farm and attended rural grade school in Arizona Township. He graduated from Tekamah High School in 1945, attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington Missouri and in 1949 graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. While at UNL he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He later enlisted in the Marine Corp. On March 12, 1950 Jack married Donna May Blankenship in Tekamah. He was a farmer and hog producer with his brother Jerry and received the Nebraska Pioneer Award for 100 years of continuous family farm ownership. A licensed pilot and passionate fisherman, Jack loved to visit with everyone. Jack always loved telling a good joke and will be remembered for a twinkle in his eye.

Jack was a member of the masonic lodge, and a lifelong, faithful and active member of the United Methodist Church in Tekamah. He was a proud and devoted uncle. The community, his friends and family will miss him greatly.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Alvera (Loftman) Palmer and his brother Jerry.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna; sister-in-laws: Jerris Palmer, Claudine Hansen, Gloria Cameron (Brian), Jan Stillman; brother–in-laws: Jim Blankenship (Joan) and Teddy Blankenship (Laura); nieces: Jayne Palmer, Mindy Major (Barry), Sarah Frye (Dave), and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held on Sat., Jan. 30th at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah NE.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial is in the Tekamah Cemetery.

George L. Camron, 56, of Tekamah NE


George L. Camron was born to Alta Carman and in Owensboro, Kentucky on October 5, 1959. He was the second oldest of seven children. His family moved to Nebraska when George was 14 years old. He passed away surrounded by loved ones Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska, after a quick and aggressive fight with pancreatic cancer, at the age of 56.

George married Carol Marie Carlson of Oakland, Nebraska January 11, 1982. Together they had three children, one of whom passed during infancy.

George was a man of many talents. He had several hobbies, but his favorites were fishing and being amongst friends. His newest joy was his grandson Maddox.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carol; son, Nathan; brother, Norman; sister, Theanna.

Survivors include his son, Mike (Elise) Camron of Tekamah; daughter, Tara (Steve) Camron of Blair, NE; grandson, Maddox Camron of Tekamah; mother, Alta Townsend; father, Gary Townsend of Tekamah; brother, Robert (Kelly) Camron of Omaha, NE; sister, Linda (Joe) Sergio of Sherman, TX; sister, Udith (Art) Johnson of Craig, NE; brother, Leroy Townsend of Tekamah; several nieces and nephews.

A Memoral Service will be held Fri., Jan. 29th at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith Family Baptist Church in Tekamah NE.

Burial is in the Tekamah Cemetery.
