Lyons 4th of July Parade

The Lyons 4th of July parade was fabulous, as always. There were several entries from Lyons and the surrounding communities in the parade, along with a large group of spectators. Many children were also in attendance, eagerly awaiting the candy and other treats being handed out from those participating in the parade. Ron Miller, 75, of Lyons NE

Ron Miller, age 75, of Lyons, Nebraska passed away Monday, July 3, 2017 at his home in Lyons.

Memorial service will be on Friday, July 7, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons.  Burial will be in the Lyons Cemetery.

Memorial visitation will be held Thursday, from 5-7 pm, with family receiving friends, at Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour prior to service.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Pelan Funeral Services in Lyons is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Bucy, 90, of Tekamah NE

Earl Bucy, age 90, of Tekamah, Nebraska passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska. Memorial service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017, 10:30 am, at First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah. Burial will be in the Tekamah Cemetery, Tekamah, Nebraska.  Memorial visitation will be on Thursday, from 5-7 p.m. with family receiving friends. A Masonic Service will be at 7 p.m. all at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah. Memorials are suggested to the Bryant House or Tekamah Fire and Rescue.  Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Earl “Chuck” Bucy, Jr. was born September 27, 1926 to Clarence and Inez (??) Bucy on the family farm near Decatur, Nebraska. Earl grew up in the Lake Quinnebaugh Township and attended a 2-room country school. He was a member of the school’s Glee Club and played the trombone. As a child Earl was stricken with polio and spent more than a year hospitalized in an iron lung. He graduated from Tekamah High School in 1946. He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln before returning home to farm the land that was farmed by his father and grandfather. The family was honored with an AkSarBen Pioneer Farm Family Award in 1990, recognizing that the land has been in the Bucy family for more than 100 years.

Earl married Helen Burt Neary on August 29, 1948, in Decatur. They lived on the family farm, between Decatur and Tekamah, before moving to Tekamah after retirement in the 1980s. Earl enjoyed fishing with his friends. He and his wife enjoyed traveling across the country in their motor home and spending their winters in Arizona. He was proud to receive the Bronze Jordan Medal for being the oldest Master Mason of Tekamah Masonic Lodge No. 31. He was a founding member of the Tekamah Rawhide Nobles, the miniature car club that drove in numerous local parades and was also a member of The Tangier Shrine Scottish & Yorkshire Rites. He also served on the Burt-Washington County Drainage Board, the Burt County Museum Board and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah.

Earl and Helen’s greatest joy was watching their grandchildren grow up and attending their school, 4-H and sports activities.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents; siblings, John, Howard, Dean, Doris and Leo; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Dahl; step-grandson, Joshua Jacobsen.

He is survived by his four sons, Mike Bucy and friend Peg of Tekamah, Larry (Christine Jacobsen-Bucy) Bucy of Decatur, Gary (Joan) Bucy of Tekamah, Jerry (Mary) Bucy of Beatrice, NE; seven grandchildren, Tim Bucy, Gregg (Marlyn Marincas-Bucy) Bucy, Tessa (Nate) Darling, Alexis (Patrick) Linehan, Harrison (Alyssa) Bucy, Justine Bucy and Josh Bucy; 2 step-grandchildren, Sandra (Tom) Engel and Johnathan Jacobsen; 15 great grandchildren, Tomi Jo, Karlie, Chase and Kaden Dahl, Sage, Aiden, Carson and Addison Darling, Annie, Mitch, Jack & Lucas Linehan, Aspen Bucy, Alex and Gregorie -Marincas Bucy; 4 great great grandchildren; siblings, Eldon (LaDonna) Bucy and Larie (Dave) Way.

Robert “Curt” Ray, 62, of Tekamah NE

Robert “Curt” Ray, age 62, of Tekamah, Nebraska passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at his home in Tekamah.  Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 6th, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah.  Burial will be in the Tekamah Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 5th, from 4 until 7 p.m. with family receiving friends at Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah.  A Masonic Service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Tekamah-Herman Ball Association or to the Tekamah Fire & Rescue.  Arrangements by Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah.

Robert “Curt” Ray was born to Bob and Iris (Jackson) Ray on April 13, 1955 in Oakland, Nebraska. He passed away July 2, 2017, at his home in Tekamah, Nebraska after a long battle with ALS, at the age of 62 years.  Curt grew up on a farm outside of the Bertha Community. He attended a one-room school house until 6th grade. He graduated from Tekamah-Herman High School in 1973. After high school, he attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a bachelor of science in business administration.

On June 12, 1976, he married his college sweetheart, Kathy Blanc. They spent their married life in Tekamah, where he started Curt Ray Insurance Agency. He was an active independent insurance agent for 25 years.

He enjoyed flying, boating, gardening, golfing, and coaching. He served the community of Tekamah in many capacities including:  Masonic Lodge #31, Tekamah Airport Authority, Tekamah-Herman Ball Association, the Voice of Tiger High, founding board member of Northridge Country Club, coaching 29 teams of Tekamah-Herman softball, and many more organizations.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clara and Nemon Ray and R.C. and Lula Jackson; father-in-law, Buck Blanc.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Blanc) Ray; daughters, Janet (Dan) Becic of Wichita, KS, Diane (Nik) Beninato of Fremont, NE, Holly (Kevin) Loftis of Craig, NE; grandchildren, Parke Loftis, Blake Beninato, Lane Loftis, Julia Beninato, Emily Loftis, James Becic, Mason Beninato and Clara Becic;  parents, Bob and Iris Ray; brothers, Greg (Deanna) and Dick (Diane); mother-in-law, Dee Blanc; many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
