Ethan Johnson Sweeps 4-H Poultry Show!


Ethan Johnson (center) celebrates his sweeping win of the 4-H Poultry Show Saturday morning with his supportive family surrounding him.

Ethan won all the Poultry trophies…Champion and Reserve Champion Poultry Exhibit and Champion Poultry Exhibitor.

Joyce E. Allison, 81, of Tekamah NE


Joyce E. Allison, age 81, of Tekamah, Nebraska passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah.  Burial will be in the Tekamah Cemetery, Tekamah.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Tekamah Fire and Rescue and Lied Tekamah Public Library. Funeral arrangements by Pelan Funeral Services in Tekamah.

Joyce Elleen (Marr) Allison was born on July 18, 1936 in the Northern Arizona Township of rural Tekamah, Nebraska. She passed August 5, 2017 at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska.

Joyce grew up in rural Tekamah and was married on April 11, 1954 to Donald Ray Allison of Tekamah. They lived in Tekamah and raised their two children Dan and Angie. Joyce worked for the family business Allison Electric, at JC Penny and as a homemaker.

Joyce was insanely stubborn, witty, feisty and playful, had dimples for days and an infectious laugh. Joyce was a skilled bowler and loved spending her free time playing cards, listening to her records and devouring chocolate and books. Despite the fact that she had a brown thumb, she loved flowers, the outdoors, and observing the birds and naming their tunes. Her favorites were the cardinal and hummingbird.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents: Ellsworth Marr and Gertie (Ray) Marr; siblings: Phyllis (Marr) Loerch and Marvin Marr.

She is survived by her children: Dan (Calista) Allison of Tekamah and Angie (Noel) Petersen of Herman; brother, Terry Marr of Tekamah; Grandchildren: Kent (Sarah) Allison of Tekamah, Andy (Nicole) Allison of Castle Rock, CO, Adri Allison of Tekamah, Brittany Petersen of Omaha and Brandi (Bryan) Allison of Tekamah; Great-grandchildren: Morgan, Teagan, Olivia and Delaynie Allison; many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Burt County Brass Quintet to Perform at Burt County Fair Saturday


There is something exciting, expressive and powerful about a brass quintet.  Add to this exceptional sound a wide selection of American music and you have the recipe for a popular performance!  This is exactly what the Burt County Fair in Oakland has in store for you and your family this Saturday.
Saturday, August 5 at 2pm in the Pavilion, the Burt County Fair presents the Burt County Brass Quintet.  This popular music group that has concertized over three counties in six years will be playing an “All American Music” concert.  Music from early America to Broadway to the Beatles will be featured by this performing group at the Burt County Fair this Saturday.
Members of the Burt County Brass Quintet are Gary Fugman and Jim Groth, trumpets, Lisa Mutzenberger, French horn, Matt Smoot, trombone and Viktor Sundleaf, tuba.  The BCBQ is available to perform for your town, organization or gathering.  Contact any member of the Quintet or call Pastor Gary Fugman at 349-1953.  Mark your calendars to hear the BCBQ in future Christmas concerts; December 3 at 6pm at the Swedish Heritage Center in Oakland and December 10 at the Neihardt Center in Bancroft at 2pm and the Library in Lyons at 4pm.
